It's one of those things that doing it right is fine but doing it wrong, well I have seen ruined shifter dogs at the Triumph shop.

I can't recommend it but it's about like a zen type of thing. If you think about backing off the throttle you will be too late and load up the gears in the other direction. This is what can cause the damaged dogs. There will be a neutral no load point and this depends a lot on rpm.

Kory, I would recommend trying this. Start out shifting normally with clutch and throttle and applying a bit of pre-load to the shifter. It doesn't take much. As you go along experiment with less clutch feeling at what point with the throttle the shifter snicks into gear. That's the neutral no load point on the straight cut gears. Don't back off the throttle more than that then reapply.
Hint, it's harder at lower RPM.

It's technique and feel more than anything else. If you hear something go crunch don't come running to me

Don

Thanks, Don. That is what I was trying to say when I posted that if you apply a pre load to the shifter, you will eventually discover clutchless shifting. You explained it better than I did.

Who said the Mods were just admin types?
