New chain!

I'm going to take it for a test ride before I start mucking about with getting the pictures from the camera to the web, but I've just finished fitting a new chain in preparation for my upcoming road trip. After the awful experience I had putting a new chain with rivet link on the Trident last year, I decided I would try an EK chain with a bolt-on master next time around. That's exactly what I did, & it went on as easily as it was supposed to. The master link was about $15 & definitely worth every penny.

Cheers,
-Kit

Hey Kit,

Bolted joining links are used on some industrial applications, I didn't know they were available for a bike chain. Certainly sounds like an easy option, especially with a T3!

Did you change the final ratio at all?

Cheers,

Roden

Someone correct me if I am wrong, but I think EK is the only one offering that type of master link for bikes.

Cheers, Roden, what brings you to EFI-land?

This was the Sprint RS I did today, so not a T3. Did I mention how much I love having a sprocket cover that doesn't do anything else? On the Sprint, I pulled the sprocket cover off & cleaned underneath. Next time I do the Trident, I'll probably leave the sprocket cover on & just pull the new chain through with the old one. I had already gone to an 18T front, so no changes today.

Cheers,
-Kit

OnD, you are correct: EK is the only manufacturer that has the screw link. It would be great if the others did as well, as it's about a kajillion times easier than a rivet link, or even a clip on an o-ring chain.

I don't think I ever saw a screw link. Is it as strong as a rivet link. What keeps it from coming unscrewed? Will it hold up.

Take a look at the EK site for a picture and read about it.

I seriously doubt they would consider offering a link that is less secure than a rivet link, would come unscrewed, or not hold up.

Hi Kit - I like to look around in Sprintville, the tyre sticky sucked me in!

I realise it was your RS you did, I immediately thought that such a link would make doing a T3 easier. Theres no getting away from that dratted sprocket cover if the sprocket is to be changed though....

Cheers,

Roden
