Risers

I am looking to get some risers for my '01 to help my back out, what is recommended for this bike? How much trouble to install? Thanks.

I just ordered GenMar risers for my newly purchased '01. The GenMars have 1 1/4 in. lift and I think the angle will push them back some too. I rode 200mi. today and the stock set-up was ok, but I think I'll be more comfy with a little more elbow bend.

+ 1 on the Genmar risers. I fitted them to my RS a couple of years ago and they have made all the difference to me.

They are very simple to install but I would strongly recommend using a torque wrench to do up the bolts and the last thing you want to do is damage any of the steering head components due to overtorqueing.

I would also recommend using Loktite (I have some 222) on the all the bolts and especially on the little grub screws that come with the kit. Just stops them coming undone when you don't want them to.

I've also got genmar's on an 01 RS and find a significant improvement over stock.

If you do a search, you'll find some pretty thorough discussion of this topic. I have an '01 with GenMars. They definately help, but I still think about Convertibars. Oldndumb has Convertibars, if I recall correctly. Helibars aren't available for our model.

They're easy to fit and don't interfere with the steering lock. Had them on my '05 Sprint ST and they made a big difference to comfort. And the good news for UK riders is that they're now for sale in the classifieds section - £50 inc postage!

I've got convertibars on my RS. They feel great once you have it set up. I had to cut my fairings to make it work, but I didn't have to put on longer brake or clutch lines.

After doing it, probably the gen mars would've done the same thing for me with less hassle though. I just didn't want to buy something, and then not like the position. I figured the convertibars would get me infinite positioning options...

One neat thing about the convertibars, is it actually makes the handlebars a little wider in "up and back" mode. Makes the bike feel like it steers quicker. Then, the forward and down position is exactly like stock...and I can go lower than stock if I want to (like I did for the track day).

Genmars are nice and give a more comfortable riding position. Easy to install but be careful with the extremely cheap throttle cable. It will not take any abuse and break near the screw wheel adjustment.

BTW, has anyone found a more durable throttle cable? I'm on #3. 1st broke, second I broke on installation, 3rd has a small crack but working now with the aid of a cable tie.

I put Genmars on my '02. While not a lot in the long run, every little bit helps and i am glad they are on.
