Fyi

Today I received a recall notice for my 2007 Sprint. It seems that there is something wrong with the mount for the top box and it needs to go to the dealer for a 20 minute fix.

Just thought I would let you know.

Here's the info for that:

Models 2005-2008 Sprint ST 1050 and 2004-2008 Tiger 1050 motorcycles equipped with an optional accessory luggage rack.
Undersized washers were used which prevents the sliding carriage from moving as intended. This reduces stability and can occur if the motorcycle is ridden with the fitted accessory, exceeded maximum weight, and at speeds far in excess of 80 MPH limit warning, increasing the risk of a crash.
Dealers will inspect the accessory racks for lateral movement. Those racks not displaying any movement will be repaired.

For information, and to aid identification, the oversize rubber washers are approximately 1.5 mm thick, and the replacement rubber washers are approximately 0.5 mm thick.

I got the recall notice last year but I had modified the rack to remove lateral movement. Why does it need lateral movement anyway?

Maybe you would have better luck looking in the "recall" sticky.

we had same movement on ST1300 bag as well - its supposed to move under buffeting wind to prevent to transfer the shaking to the subframe.

if it doesn't move, with buffeting wind it might start shaking the rear end and cause a weave or tank slapper in extreme cases

+1 SamaR

That is my understanding of why the movement is allowed also.
