Pressures
rodsprint,
the MAX pressures in the manual are just that. If you ride solo and are of an average weight and do not carry luggage and inflate to the max pressures most tyres at that pressure will not work the way they have been designed to, will not reach correct temperature, and grip and ride will be compromised
Most tyres will not perform at their best at that MAX pressure without the accompanying load. Many riders here have proven this over and over again on this site.
This has been hashed over many times here and the vast majority of riders have agreed with me on this.
Conti Road Attacks seem to be the odd man out in the sense that they run better at higher pressures than most other brands available.
Different tyres work better at different pressures they are not all constructed the same way or from the same materials.
Doublenikkel,
I am unsure what bike you are refering to when you say you used to run 28 front and 32 rear on Michelin sports tyres but unless you are on a race track that is too low for a Sprint.
I am running on Michelin Pilot Race mediums at the moment and run 33 front 36 rear, at these pressures in my warm climate the tyres work very well, plenty of pics of different types of tyres in my albums in clicky below.

Original Bridgestones changed at 12,000km.Still had some life left but I was preparing for a 5000km trip so fitted Avon Storms - at Davem's recommendation.
Avons now at 8,000 and look like they will do 12,000km.
Average rider - generally in the middle of group rides.
Approx 50/50 highway and twisty roads.

My Story
Bought my beautiful 06 Sprint as a demo with 3500km's on it. Now have 13200 on the clock and a second rear on at 10400. Front is now done and with the assistance of advice of DaveM and RussCook, have decided to change the front to a Conti Sport Attack, and when the rear goes, will go to a Conti Road Attack. So seeing as the tyres were a demo item when I bought, I figure I have probably got about 8000km's from the rear and 11500 from the front. But now that I'm a lot more used to the beast and riding it more aggresively, I expect these numbers will reduce, especially with the confidence of a new Sport Attack on the front.

To low to go!
Dave
The bike in question was my Sprint ST,I was following the recomendations of a rider on a Suzuki GSX-R 750 who was using the same tires. Like I said, they didn`t last long at all. I rode much harder back then compared to now. But they felt bad at those pressures. I think I might have rode about a month like that. But when I put them back to a more normal pressure(34&38),they seemed to not want to grip as well, almost as if the rubber had been over heated and then gotten to hard for optimum grip. I`m in Texas and the heat here is ruthless in the summer months,so I very well may have ruined them.
But thanks for the informative post above,I did not realize that tires at the max would have less grip, makes sense to me though.
I`ve been thinking about going back to a full sport tire for the Sprint,I`ll try your recomendation for pressure`s when I do,thanks again!!

you guys might want to source the article from amcn vol 54 no 16.
The article gives the manufacturers views on tyre pressures and might just dispell some of the ******** that abounds on this subject
Happy riding

Rodsprint,
it is unclear exactly what you are refering to. But you might also consider that if you are refering to the AMCN magazine, it is possible the rest of the world may not read it, other countries have their own mags too.
AMCN here is short for Australian Motorcycle News for you other folks.
Your clarification could help

Tyre Wear Poll
05 Sprint ST 1050
Original Tyres: BT020. Front and rear replaced after 4500 miles. Front OK, rear squared off. Replaced with the same tyre. Same result. Changed to BT021's. Not impressed. Didn't like the way they handled and rear was knackered after 3500 miles. Just put Dunlop Roadsmarts on. Really impressed. These feel far more stable through the twisty bits. Too early to assess wear rate but I'd already recommend them ahead of the Bridgestones.

Welcome
Hi and welcome birchie,
if you do a tyre search or read Don's stiky at the top of the page you will find I loath the Slipstones sport touring tyres. They are not the best tyre to suit a Sprint that is for sure.
In the sticky there are many reviews with the most recent in the last 6 - 10 pages.
Welcome to the forum it is full of useful information and helpful individuals.
