I don't think Triumph is using a relay in this case. The stock horn draws very little and someone on the T595 site put in some aftermarket horns and said it smoked his switch assembly. That being said, I have the red Wolo horns that Harbor Freight used to sell as a pair. They have been on the bike for over a year now with no problems as such. The only down side to not using a relay (for me so far) is that there is not enough battery reserve below 1800 rpm for them to sound. At idle speeds or if off the throttle comming to a stop they simply don't have enough juice to sound. Anything above that and they work fine. It seems that it's an itermittent use thing so maybe I've been lucky. If you want to be sure to not have any problems add the relay. It's easy and cheap. The other down side I just found out about is the horn is wired with the turn signals and the brake light so if you blow the fuse you will lose those as well until you peplace it. It happened ones so far, in a turn, on the brakes, and some bi!ch on her cell phone as usual. First time it ever popped though. I also have the mini turn signals (rear only) with the 23 watt bulbs though. I will probably redoo things when I get around to adding the front turn signals which will double the draw yet again. Stock turn signal bulbs are 10 watts each. Maybe I'll pony up for a led brake light to offset the added draw of the turn signals, but for now it works OK for me as is.
