I have a 00 Sprint ST and am looking or WAS looking into getting an aftermarket underseat exhaust system. $1200?!?!? FORGET IT! Anyhow for my post my question is has anybody manufactured thier own exhaust for this specific bike or in general?

If I can buy a stainless muffler, 3 feet of stainless pipe and pay a local muffler shop to bend the pipe, and weld it up myself all for less than $200 why wouldn't I? I mean I have the brains and experience with plenty of honda civics and all the tools with the exception of the bender.

Why is the PowerMax system so ***** expensive and why, if at all, is it worth spending the extra $1G?

If there is no good reason why I shouldn't manufacture it myself I would like to hear from others who have created thier own pipes and any tips/tricks/do's and don'ts for this topic. Brand or style of muffler, pipe sizes, etc..

I may also be interested in anybody who knows of a underseat system under $500.

I don't think you'll find an underseat for under $500 unless it's used or someting. For the Sprints, there isn't much available right now. Wolf made them, but sounds like the last sold. Riders of the Lost Empire bailed on their effort. Powermax is retooling, although some may still be available through Team Triumph. TT is supposedly working on something new - but I can't imagine it's going to be cheap.

Check the S3 forum as a couple of guys did underseats out of completely different makes (R1 exhaust, etc.). Sounded like there's chopping and moving components involved though - which is beyond what I want to get into at this point.

Sure......
If all you want to do is route the noise, you can stick some home-made pipes on!
However, if it's performance you want..... buy from the blokes who know what the hell they're doing.

"Exhaust extraction is a science."

I can't even parrot half the terms used to describe everything involved in designing proper exhaust flow. As long as you're comfortable compromising the performance of a finely engineered machine..... HAVE AT IT!

- However -

If it ends up with the sexiest exhaust note ever heard on the face of the earth..... I'll pay ya good money for a copy of the plans!
