Rear Brake Mounting Plate- Play?

Did some work to my bike this weekend, cleaning the chain, etc. I had just had new tires mounted, so the rear wheel was recently off.

One think I noticed- there is a little bit of "play" in the plate that the rear brake calipers are attached to. Not much- just enough to make it "rattle" if you grab the caliper assy. The calipers themselves are bolted securely to the plate.

Is this normal?

Please confirm what I say with those that know much more than me.

But my answer would be yes, it is supposed to be able to move.

I am not overly technical though so we will see what the clever ones say

Thanks Dave. I suspect so as well, but the pilot in me likes to make double-****ed sure on items that are flight-critical.

I hope you didn't do the "bumpity bump" thing because you doubted Dave's answer, because he is correct.

Remember, always bet on three, and always bet on the Mods.

On a serious note, a lack of movement could indicate problems.......like galvanic corrosion and the attendant binding of parts.

Gotcha. Thanks OMD.

And I would never deign to doubt The Dave... I was just looking for some triangulation.
