Time to wake my mistress
Well I am going to go wake my mistress from hibernation over the winter. It's no where time to go riding but the snow is melting and I want to do all my service work on her and bring her from her hibernation den to my garage. I moved over the winter and now have a lovely garage for her to live in.
I just picked up my new Deka ETX12 AGM Battery which I am going to put in her and I picked up a AGM Specific battery tender with the detachable leads. So I am going to put the battery in and do the battery tender system in place.
Now my question is this. I know Triumphs have a hard time starting when they are cold and when they have been sitting for a long time. I don't want to burn out a starter and know all the rules on how to avoid that but does anyone have any tips on what I should do to make starting easier?
My riding buddy has a 2007 Ninja 650R and he and I went for lunch today. When we got back he went out to the garage where our bikes are resting, dropped in the battery which he didnt tend all winter, turned the key and it started just like he just gone riding.... I'll say one thing about Jap bikes, not alot of stuff to worry about with them.

As long as it's not below 25 degrees F I doubt that you will have a starting problem. Mine usually fires, coughs and dies, and then fires right back up when I push the button again.
I can't even go see mine, it's in my garage but the garage door is frozen shut and I can't get it to melt enough to open the door.

I don't think sitting a *long* time causes hard starts. My '06 started reasonably if it had been sitting a long time or if it were warm. Give it 10~12 hours and it got tough.
It somehow??? became an '07 and always starts quickly now.
I think the 05/06 issue is injector bleed like my wife's old RX-7. Same symptoms exactly.
Your bike has been sitting long enough that bleed down will have evaporated off. It should start up ok.
1) Make sure the battery is up.
2) Turn it on and wait until the pump stops. Maybe shut down and repeat the prime cycle since you may have extra dry lines.
3) Hold the start switch until it lights off.
Once started, let it idle until the fan kicks on. Don't shut down cold and confuse the adaptive settings.
Oh and...
Does your financee know how you address the bike?
Let me know how it goes. I get massochistic pleasure from being told I'm wrong.

Thanks CLB I am going to start it tomorrow if it warms up a bit. I am so anxious to get it going. Just to hear it brings me a weird pleasure.
I have had to endure all winter with our friends in Africa, and Australia talking about their wonderful rides...blah blah blah....so warm and went for 600kms today....blah blah blah.... Oh bit of a sprinkle today could only ride for a few hours ....blah blah blah.... :
So I want to get it fired up at least. I have that exhaust to put on whenever it gets here, a tail tidy to install properly

Hmmm, Edmonton...
I believe I've had the MG (Union Jack thread) in Edmonton a couple times.
And the R65 once.

Sorry, we just can't help it .
When do you expect the weather to improve so that you can take your first ride of the year? Hang in there!

So you do crack the throttle a touch when cranking? I didn't think that would make a difference in a fuel injected vehicle. With automotive that makes no difference on vehicles newer then 1997. But with the Triumph that helps?

Hard to say. There are parts of Canada where you can ride almost year round like Vancouver and the Okanagan where I lived all my life. Its only since I moved to central Alberta that you have real bad winters. I really just waiting for the roads to get safe. It's still hovering aroun -1 to -10 celcius so the roads have patchy ice in shaded parts. I saw a guy on a Harley yesterday when it was about +7 which is warm enough to ride just every side road, parking lot etc is still covered in snow. Really its just about safety. Snow has started to melt so hopefully end of March early April will be first ride of the season.

Yes, a little throttle. Roll off or release as soon as you start cranking. Not sure why this helps but it does on 05/06 bikes. Some advise against this but in my experience it's ok. Do let the machine run until it's completely warm though.
