Black smoke from exhaust can :(

Ok, so I went riding with a group of friends today and one of them told me that everytime I gunned it or when I downshifted a big puff of black smoke would come out of my muffler... They said it didn't look like smoke from burned oil and it didn''t have that nasty exhaust smell to it... Anyone have any ideas what it might be? I currently have the TOR CF muffler on it and it should have the TOR tune on it too... Any hints for to me start my examination would be greatly helpful

F4s.....if I never cleaned my Tridents from the day I installed them ,they might look like that.

Looks like you cleaned the center can and then stopped.

And don't whine about snow, and bad winter weather. It was 65 degrees here when I decided to get out of bed yesterday morning, and I rode in it, and then cleaned her before putting her up.

Black smoke when accelerating hard is an indication of a mixture that is too rich.

Good rule of thumb:

Black smoke is burning fuel (too rich as mentioned)
White smoke with a blue tinge is burning oil
White smoke with no tinge is coolant

Probably well known but just in case anyone was wondering.

F4sSprintST,

Which mid-pipe do you have on your Tridents?

Yea that was my first thought, i remembered someone saying once that the sprints run rich with the TOR tune, but I wanted to make sure I may take it to the dealership and see if they have an updated TOR tune for her. The one that is there now is back from 2002, so hopefully it''s been updated since Thanks for the quick replies, my worries have been put to rest... But it is a tad annoying having black smoke coming outta the tail pipe. I really am getting tired of wiping all that black soot off my exhaust pipe. hehe Maybe when I finally get a chance to replace this pipe, I'll have to make sure the tips of the new one are dark so the soot isn't so noticable
