New boots
Bought some new motorcycle boots the other day and what a difference they make. I was using some old Dr. Martens as I had in my past cruiser days but did not think they was the best for sport biking. Bought some Timberland downshifters off ebay for a try. With them on I am able to ride faster in the twisties and my chicken strips are decreasing in size. I guess I can move around better with the timberlands than I could before. I think it is mostly the sole design as I can easily move my feet to where they need to be. Anyhow I was amazed at the difference a pair of boots could make. Kepp safe and keep grinning Jeff

That is great news. I ride in my North Face hiking light day hicking boots and have been looking for a decent set of riding specific boots. I am going to check these out. I had no idea Timberland made riding boots. I went to Redwing Shoes and they make a riding boot but it has a steel toe and I am not sure how well that would get under the shifter on a sport bike....

I am going to check these Timberlands out right now

I currently ride with an engineer style boot with a steel toe (which I was glad was there this summer when I broke off the foot rest) and have no problems with shifting. I have wondered more about thickness of the sole as mine were lugged and lost some ability to feel the peg well. Just didn't seem to sit well on the peg. I have been thinking of new boots as mine now has a hole worn through to the steel in one (leaks in the wet). Sure would like to know what others wear.

Good reply up there!!! When you're sliding down the road with a 400lb + bike on your leg, you want good protection. Nike doesn't count, although I believe Puma are supposed to be making some sort of mc boot.

The boots I got was these

[img]http://www.triumphrat.net/memberalbums/showphoto.php/photo/5098/ppuser/22579[img]

I liked them as they are lace up and have a velcro strap to ty the knot down, with my fat stubby legs it is hard to find boots that fit my ankles/calfs, but these work perfect. They may not be $200 Spidi but the Spidi's did not fit at all and to be honest I do not think I need all the features that Spidi's have.
and yes GJJ, I think that was part of the problem with my Dr. Marten's, with a lug sole and really stepped heel, they are just to clunky.

When I searched for those boots I got pics of a low hiking boot style and then pics of a more rugged/MCycle tall boot. Which ones did you pic up?

I have tried the Sidi's and I really really like them but I have been looking for a good deal on them. I also looked at some Joe Rocket boots but I find they are too "hooligan" looking imo, and I am not sure of the function.

Regardless, boots and pants are a necessary purchase this year.

Check out the Oxtar Matrix. I have a pair of the Matrix and really like them. From the first time I put them on they have been the most comfortable motorcycle boots I've owned. I've had them for about a year and have about 10k miles on them so far with no complaints. They are comfortable to walk around in and on numerous occasions I have worn them all day while at work. I've also been in some pretty heavy rainstorms with them and they have kept my feet dry. Very nice boots.

Speed Safe,
Don
