o-ring cruise control

I remember someone posting a while ago that they were using a thick o-ring to add a bit of resistance to the throttle return, so as to act as a ghetto cruise control. Does anyone who has tried this have any pointers for the sort of o-ring (width, internal diameter etc) that's optimal?
