OBD Scanner ?

G'day all, I'm wondering if anyone here has an OBD scan tool-thingumy...

I hate giving workshops money for things i can do myself, and I've had a little peek on Ebay (Whole lot of cheap-ass chinese ones .... one or two professional ones...)

Anyone here bought their own ?
worth the purchase ?

Cheers
J

Yeah, I just picked one up for $42.00 from this store. It's excellent, at least for me. I got the "professional" unit (item is blue /with yellow background, buy it now for $44.00) Might be chinese, but it's paid for with the first use. It has an awesome display that defines the DTC in english.
I recommend the seller, very quick service and stands behind his items.

See my most recent post about protocols.

There are domestic ones that exceed $100 and needs to be hooked up to a computer with a subscription with the vendor, but I think that's a joke.

There are so many scanners available. It really depends what you want to use it for. No scanner will have Triumph specific info but you can get your Triumph info with the genereic OBD II reader. If you want to use your scanner for other things like your own vehicle then get something a little better so you can actually see data streams and take control over certain aspects.

If you want to go used try and see if you can pick up a SnapOn MT2500 Red Brick with appropriate cartridges and cables. These units have been used i shops for years and are the standard of scanners. In the last 3 years SnapOn put out a new scanner called the Modis so the Red Bricks are coming up cheap. Also a great scanner is the OTC Genisys (actually the one I prefer over any other scanner) but is still quite current so its hard to find a good deal.

SnapOn 2500 does OBDI, OBDII, CAN (with update) has a troubleshooting, data stream, Asian, Domestic and European (all with appropriate cartridges).
