The Ortlieb bags I mentioned previously don't use rain covers. They are "dry bags" like those used for water sports. And, totally waterproof.

I have the hard panniers but one of my riding buddies uses the soft panniers and they actually hold more than my hard panniers. I believe his is a Cortech system or something close to it.

I had dryrider bags on my Trident that expanded to 45l I used them on quite a few trips and actually carried too much. They held up to the weather here in Tassy very well.

Now I have a 2006 St and have ordered a set of Motodry 27l expandable to 35l for $170Au. They look to be fairly sturdy and come with covers. They have two velco straps and I will be mounting them under the seat (no bolt) Tankman has made up a small rack for me to keep them off the paint work. I'll be using them for a 3 week road trip to Sydney in March.

Motodry also do a set of smaller sports style panniers about $140Au that would be fine if your only one up.

Try the Dryrider or Motodry I think you will find them pretty good.

I would love to see his little rack to keep them off the paint work. I am going to build something similar since I really cant afford the triumph hard bags.

Just noticed a set of Triumph soft bags on Ebay OZ (search under Panniers)
I think they're for a speedtriple or daytona up to 2004. Might fit your bike.

Thanks Gallowglass but in my impatience, I've already ordered a set of Triumph bags from Pure-Triumph in the US for US$190 (plus delivery). Hope it gets here in a couple weeks. They deliver to Oz and their delivery rates seem reasonable. They got great prices on triumph jackets and hundreds cheaper that getting them locally.

Gallowglass....Any chance of seeing a picture or two of the Rack system
that Tankman made for you......I have been thinking of a Rack system
myself.....but I'm not that good at designing racks, a picture would be
great.

Cheers gsbeamer.

Basically Tankman made them to fit where the mounting holes for the hard luggage rails fit - the grab bar and the front mount.
It consits of a straight bar strategically cut and bent to avoid the paintwork and a small triangle rail below to stop any swing in toward the tyre.

I am on night shift at the moment and my thinking is a bit fuzzy but I will post a photo in the next day or two.
