Free play in rear cush drive

I need to replace the rear cush drive rubbers on my '01 RS because there's a ton of free play- has anyone else experienced this? The bike's only got ~24K miles. I did a little searching here and found mention of a re-design for '02. Should I supercede my stock part with an '02 one? Also, Stlakid mentioned GSXR hubs being similar, anyone tried the cush drive from Suzuki? Thanks to everyone for such a wealth of info.

Hmmmmmm, maybe I'll ask the guys over at the Toyota forum. There's only a one digit difference between the part numbers of the '01 and '02 (with DSSA) but I'm not sure if that's just a year code or if it means there's an update. Maybe I'll ask a dealership.

About a year ago, I had similar cush drive issues. It is actually shrinkage of the rubber.
I took out the drive and cut up a bicycle tube, slid a square into each recess, then pushed the cush back in.
Zero slack, and a year later it is showing no signs of failure or loosening.

I'm sure some will say it's a hack fix, but it only cost $5 and half an hour of my time.
The factory replacement is $76
