Esoteric Challenge for New Year

Happy New Year Folks!

My Brother in Law (well nearly) recently bought an 06 ST and at my suggestion removed the main and lower fairings to give everything inside a liberal dose of ScottOil FS365. When he put the thing back together he came up one fairing bolt spare.... A black one.

I've never taken the new model ST apart, but I went through the bits I thought possible from my 04 that used black bolts

Radiator fillets - No

Windscreen arm trims - No

Any ideas where he might have gained this spare black bolt from?

On the ST the black bolts on the side panel fairing are only behind peices. Any visible fairing bolts are stainless unless on the (rad shroud) so black bolt loactions:

#1 one bolt that holds the glove box to the frame. It has to be undone to get underneath to undo #2 underneath the glove box portion and bolts the fairing to the frame.

The only other place that uses black bolts are #3 at the top of the fairing where it meets the nose cone inside the rad houseing and it keeps the rad shroud to the fairing. #4 is just below on the rad shroud about half way and #5 is behind the rad shroud and bolts the fairing to a tongue on the frame. #6 bolts the lower rad shroud to the fairing itself. Those are all of the black bolts I can think if. The one you have is probably the one I always miss and that is #5. you have to get your head right in the front end to see it.

Thanks for the Pointers

I'll let him know. They sound like the sort of places where you could miss one.

Underneath the black console covers along the top sides of the fairings. It's easy to miss.
