I had a mate who used 2 folded bandanas ( not bananas ) and stuffed them up the sides of his helmet and covered his ears as he could not stand to wear the foam earplugs. he reckoned that was better than plugs and said it was excellent. Haven't tried it myself but maybe worthwhile to try.

I been using 3M disposable plugs (29dB) and they work really well for about 2 days in and out. Toss them and put fresh ones in when they get gummy.

However, I recently saw these in a magazine. Order a pair and let us know what you thinks The only problem is - you may hear the beautiful music the engine is singing.

I've been using the Etymotic ER-6 ear buds for years. I have two sets right now, one for the bike and one for air travel and they are excellent. On the bike I listen to music about half the time, particularly when I'm alone and/ or burning miles. The remainder of the time, with other riders or just out scratching, I leave the iPod shuffle turned off, and just use the ER-6s as ear plugs. I can still hear traffic and related ambient noise but the wind roar is effectively cancelled. I also have a small home- made amplifier that greatly improves frequency response, not just volume and that's a boon to music listening. Other times the Howard Leight bell- shaped foam plugs have been very good, also. I wear either an Arai Signet or a Shoei RF-1000, and find the (newer) Shoei to be quieter than the Arai. I won't ride without ear protection as the difference is amazing!

Thanks for the review.
Would you say the ER6 alone is as quiet as the Howard Leight's ? Those are disposables?

I have an RF1000 too, great lid for the money. I usually wear 3M disposables and when I take them out after a few hours everything seems so loud outside.

I'm not sure what you are asking re: disposables. The Howard Leights are certainly disposable. The ER6s are in- ear "headphones", great sonic range, a joy for music listening:

A good deal on Amazon. Etymotic's customer service is also excellent. My dog attempted to floss with my original set two years ago, and when I called Etymotic inquiring about a replacement set, they repaired the damaged set for free (I did order a new set also). You'll go through the tiny filters in the buds every 20- 30 hours of riding but the earphones ship w/ replacements and they're a snap to change out. Best quality for the money, IMO.

Oh yes. I was wondering if the JLs were moulded or disposable type.
Thanks, I think I will order a set.

What I use

Disposable orange jobs (soft foam) come in a box of 200 in individually packed pairs.

MAX made by Howard Leight

Noise reduction 33 decebels.

They are bell shaped which makes them easier to remove.

I like these a lot I can still hear my exhaust, induction noise and my intercom but no wind noise.
