It is called the Windjammer.

I am 6'3" and found a bit of wind noise when riding as well. I used several different ear plugs, but found it uncomfortable and a hassle for day rides. After buying new gear - First Gear- The collar seemed to close the gap under my HJC helmet and reduce the noise significantly. It has a zip out liner for warm weather so it is potential solution.

Wind Noise Re-visited
I found an interesting site on the net for those of you who are concerned about wind noise and hearing loss:
http//www.webbikeworld.com/motorcycle-helmets/helmet-noise.htm
I hope the link works. The site also has a link to Windjammers. They sound like they will do the job so I will order one and let you know how it goes.
BTW I went to a motorcycle accessory shop to see if they had any Windjammerrs but they hadn't heard of them and tried to sell me a $500 helmet that was "the quietest helmet available". That maybe so but I didn't go there to buy a new helmet !

Hi Jason,
Thanks for your report on the moulded ear plugs. Most people seem to be positive about them so maybe it is an individual thing. I'm currently using Bilsom Extreme (orange) ear plugs but I find that they are difficult to fit into place and just don't seem to cut out as much of the wind noise as I would like. So I think that a combination of the Windjammer and moulded plugs will work. I'm also hoping that the Windjammer by itself will be enough as that would be preferable to putting ear plugs in. I like listening to the engine and exhaust notes but the wind noise really annoys me
Cheers, Glenn

Before the Sprint I rode a Yamaha 750 with lots of miles and original exhaust that made a substantial amount of noise. I really liked the small burble when backing off the throttle and always shifted by sound. Then I bought the Sprint and due to it being quieter I couldn't hear my exhaust to shift by and suddenly I had all this wind noise. Same helmet on both bikes so I guess one way to reduce wind noise would be to get a loud exhaust. The wind noise was always there just not noticeable. I personally do not care to go back to a loud bike even though I find engine noise pleasing and wind noise irritating. Being from Wisconsin, home of Harley and open pipes, I find the Sprint an environmentally friendly ride and at this stage of my life I guess that has some importance.

I have found Shoei helmets to be quieter than others with regards to wind noise and they have an accessory called (I think) a helmet curtain that closes the gap between your neck and helmet.
I ALWAYS wear earplugs- soft bell shaped silicone type ones.
Like others I did get custom plugs made once, but they were so painful that after three re-works I got my money refunded. I think the moulding material was squeezed in with too much pressure and so was made a bit oversize all round...
I have two pals who have had custom plugs in the past and they have just had new ones made (with speakers inserts for sat-nav). Both of them were really hapy with their original sets, but one is very displeased with the fit of his new ones. I think it appears to be a bit pot luck if they fit or not.

Thanks for the tip about Shoei helmets. Come to think of it I used to have a Shoei many years ago and it was fairly quiet. I'll keep it in mind next time I'm buying a helmet. BTW I bought a set of moulded earplugs today and wore them on the way home via the freeway and with a bit of wind about and it was amazing the difference in noise reduction. My problem now is I can hardly hear my bike so the next item on the list is a new muffler.
Cheers
