First long trip on the RS

Since I got my RS back in October, I haven't really had much chance to do a real road trip. Since airfare was super pricey this year, & the weather report looked halfway decent for December....

I am writing this post from Richmond, VA, mostly recovered from 352.8 miles in ~40* F weather. It wasn't supposed to rain, but somehow the clouds started dumping water on me about 50 miles into the trip. Which wouldn't have been so bad if I had remembered to put on my overpants, but I left them next to the door in my apartment.

The morning was just a fiasco. I was shooting for a 10 AM departure, but so many little things went wrong that I left at 12:45. I must say, though, that the half hour or so I used rebuilding the connector for my borrowed Widder vest was time well spent.

I got here with very cold legs & an achy back. I suspect that my back would have fared better if the heated vest had actually fit me. (I have a much larger chest than my friend who lent it to me. I also have quite a bit more pudge, but at least that can be squished into place. )

I am really quite amazed at the difference the half-fairing makes versus my naked Trident, & at how much the vest does for my entire body.

I am also, as always, amazed at how silky-smooth this bike is, & at how quickly she accelerates. You really had to work the Trident to pass the ton, & 80 was about the max sustainable speed due to the wind. This one hits the ton at 6k in 6th & has absolutely no problem overtaking other vehicles without downshifting. I saw 112 on the big LCD on one of the few traffic-free straights, & took a (long, sweeping) turn with said display in the triple digits for the first time as well. So very, very smooth.

Cheers,
-Kit

Great job Kit, know just what you mean with the Ton, I start getting into the ride on some of those long straights and sweepers and the next I know I am doing well over a ton. Scares me sometimes as I really don't need a ticket.
But here is hoping that you have a good trip with many grins. PhxMan

Oh, yeah! Every time I noticed 3 digits on the speedo, the thought of a ticket slowed me down again real quick! Still, I've heard the left digit on the LCD gets jammed up & starts causing problems if you don't use it once in a while....

Cheers,
-Kit

Great

To hear you are enjoying your RS so much Kit.

They are indeed a very smooth Mill, I have owned heaps of Japanese fours but the 955 triple beats every one of them for smoothness of power delivery and no real vibes that are so annoyingly common on most fours.

I can also relate to the cold although not here in Queensland, I have ridden a great deal in NZ where there are rather chilly regions and rain aplenty.

Have a great trip Kit.

Cheers,
DaveM

Well done Kit, they are a great bike.. and always a pleasure to ride. I was in the rain with my wife yesterday and enjoyed every minute of it (except the wet bit)

Our ton (in Kph) is easier to hit, for us it's when you hit 160kph that the cobwebs start to dissipate. LOL

nice little ride out, sounds like a great day.

I'm planning on a ride out to Vegas and back (from Toronto) in May on the RS. I'll definitely file a ride report when I get back.

Dave, Don- Thanks!

Pitbull- Your plans for May are impressive! I thought I was being ambitious with the NYC<->Austin trip I'm planning for April...

Steven- You didn't think I was talking about *miles* per hour, did you? That would be considerably faster than the speed limit!

Cheers,
-Kit

Kit, that would be the 'metric ton' then.
I did 2400 miles to British Columbia and back this summer. I was amazed at how effortlessly it racked up the miles. Of course, mine is the faster Eclipse Blue. Oh wait, that's a different thread.
