New owner question

Brought my new 06 Sprint St home the day after Thanksgiving and do to cold and snow haven`t been able to ride it since. After reading many of the great posts here I am considering a couple of changes. Now for the question, does anybody know the exact difference in height between the 06 and 07 handlebars. I`m undecided between a set of Genmars or the Triumph 07 handlebar kit. Thanks

balden,

First welcome to the fold. You are going to love the bike.

Don't know the diff between the two, put genmars on mine took about 10 minutes per side, so much easier than the 07 kit. Bought them used saved a ton over new, and far less than buying the 07 kit. But Ramp does a 25% off sale every so often and that would lower the cost of the 07's to close to the genmars. I would imagine that when done they are very close to the same.

balden,

I don't recall the exact difference between the two years but I have an 07 and changed to the 06 bars which lowered the hand position approx. 1 1/4 inch (perhaps just a smidge more.) I could measure my old ones in mm if that would be helpful and send you the figures. Mind you, my 06 bars are on the bike so there might be a 1 to 2 mm tolerance in my measurements without taking them off.

p.s. I bought mine on the cheap off another Rat here on the forum so I would follow Gary's advice and avoid buying the kit from Triumph if you can find one on the site or try the Genmars which I hear work well too.

Thanks everyone for the response, Genmar claims a 1 1/4 inch rise, sounds about the same as the 07 handlebars. Now I`m wondering why Genmar says to use the original cables and hoses and the Triumph kit includes new ones?

Welcome Balden,
I recently bought a silver 06 Sprint ST as well ... I spent many hours on the bike forum related to my last bike and this forum has also proven to be an outstanding resource for information and advice.
Have you scanned the threads for the usual things...06 Sprint recall items, typical or recommended modifications, etc. ? … search the comments about the front brakes, I’d be interested to know what you think.
I’ve been on travel for the last 2 months and have not been able to pursue some of my original posts, so I was just wondering if you had a chance to explore the site…

Anyway, it sounds like you haven’t spent much time on your new Sprint … you’re going to like it more each time you take it out. I smile every time I pull out of the driveway and open it up on the back roads. Hands down, the best bike I’ve every owned… or ridden.

Cheers,
SprintRB

I spent a lot of time researching. I went back and forth between a Honda VFR and the Sprint ST for a couple of years before making the move. Hard to put my finger on it, but finally settled on the Sprint, I thing it was that beautiful motor that may done it? Coming from a BMW cruiser to this is quite a change and having a total of 40 miles on the Sprint I wouldn`t offer to many opinions yet except to say I couldn`t stop grinning for two days after I rode it home.

I recently bought an 06 too - Sunset Red. Finally took it out for the first time today for a winter rip. It was cold out but she gave me a grin from ear to ear. Her heart's warmth between my legs was well received this time of year, but might be a problem during summer in traffic.

06 bars and screen are lower than 07. The 07s have also dealt with the suspension recall and perhaps also had EFI remapped. Bags also came standard on the 07s (here in Canada anyway)

Mods - I am not considering any so far. Might get a corbin and heated if anything.

I love it.

Mine is also Sunset Red and came with the bags. Suspension recall has been addressed. The only changes I am considering are raising the handlebars and lowering the foot pegs. The riding is over here until spring, two storms and the roads are covered with sand. Good luck with your new bike!

I too have an 06 in Sunset red. I have the genmars and am not impressed. It made my clutch cable so tight it almost impairs full lock right u-turns. I'm going with the 07 kit and it comes with longer cables. Just an opinion of somewhat of a newbie to Triumph.
