Angry 2006 Sprint battery removal

I'm trying to "mothball" my 2006 Sprint for winter storage, but can't seem to figure out how to get at the battery (to remove and periodically trickle charge). I read the manual, but what it says doesn't seem to match up to what I see. Laugh all you want, but can someone tell me how to get at my battery?

It is much safer for the battery to maintain it with a float charge, not a trickle charge. You should verify what type charger you are using.

Do you have any particular reason to remove the battery? It can be charged through the accessory socket.

float vs trickle

some use the terms float and trikle charge interchangably. I have heard that it is better to use a float charger but don't understand the diference. any ecplanation would be appreciated.

Anyone that uses the terms interchabably does not know what they are talking about.

I have explained it enough times that a search will find what you are asking.

If a search is not your cup of tea, any manufacturer site will explain it. The Yuasa site is a good source of info.

On the 2005- bikes you have to lift the back end of the tank up in order to get the battery out. It looks like it might come out without taking the tank off, and some may have been able to wiggle it out of that spot. I had mine out once and the only way I could see of easily doing it was pulling the posterior tank bolt out. It was easy at that point.

Good luck..

You know, Jbird, you can charge through the accessory socket and should be able to get some battery clips on the terminals just by removing the seat... I'm guessing the issue is that you don't have the ability to charge the battery wherever you are storing the bike and, therefore, need to pull the battery.

Click here for a post I made awhile back on removing the battery.

Hope it helps!

Cheers, Happy Holidays and such,
Mark

Use an optimate or something simular you can plug it in and just leave it for a few days every couple of weeks depending on how cold it is. Its a lot less messing around and little chance of things going wrong when you come to put it all back together in the spring. Presumably you are not able to ride or don't wish to ride during the winter.
