Exhaust opinions

Recently I've been in a mental struggle of sorts. My wife has agreed to let me buy myself an exhaust upgrade for Christmas for my 06 Sprint ST. After much thought and research, I've narrowed it down to the 2 Bros. (here comes the flak) and the factory TOR exhaust. Yes, I've read all about the Tridents on the forum, but honestly the looks of them don't do much for me. I like how the stock triple-themed pipes are all connected into a larger plate; the way the Tridents seemingly float in mid-air detracts from their looks in my opinion. Nevermind the exorbitant cost, despite the current group buy price of $729. The only thing that bothers me about the 2 Bros. pipe is the looks, but I think I could learn to love it. I really want to consider the TOR but I can't find any sound clips or info on them (such as HP gain, weight savings, etc). I'd be really interested in a sound clip or video if somebody has time to make one. Is there anybody here that has the TOR installed and is disappointed by sound and/or performance? Also, does anybody happen to have pics of an installed 2 Bros. pipe in titanium (the pictures in the threads are all carbon fiber, and the 2 Bros. website looks like a Photoshopped picture)? My last 4 bikes were Gixxer 1000s with either 2 Brothers, Jardine, or Micron exhausts. Would I be disappointed with the sound of the TOR? Thanks in advance for all your wonderful (but biased towards the Tridents, I'm sure) opinions.

My fish scale and I can help a little...

OEM cat pipe = 15.0 lb
TOR can = 11.5 lb
OEM Buck Rogers limited edition triple rocket nozzle w/hardware = 0.9 lb (add to either)

Sound clip?
"Brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrraaaaaaaaaappppppppppppppp "

Tor

as stated by CLB the TOR is not a light weight item.

The Trident by Wolf is definitely the most popular and what I would buy myself if I had a 1050 model, although most with the TOR aren't complaining.

I have the TOR on my Sprint and it sounds good. I think the Tridents sound better but the TOR does have a nice growl to it and it's about $200 less expensive. It's also slightly less likely to call attention to itself with LEOs because it does not change the stock look of the bike. It does weigh more and doesn't deliver quite the same HP gain. If you really like the look of the pipe organ plate on the back, I'll bet it could be modified to fit around the Tridents.

Also, the TOR takes a few minutes of riding to warm up before the growl shows up.

Hope that helps.

p.s. I have decided to go with the Tridents however.

Gixxermethis I'm with you. The Tridents don't do much for me but as they say horses for courses. I set up my own with a Termignomi from my now sold Ducati. I wish it was oval shape but I didn't need my wallet again and it sounds and goes brilliant. As for weight it has virtually nil.

+1 on TOR takes a few minutes of riding to warm up before the growl shows up.

I like the TOR. Its not too loud but when you get on it, you know it. Another value add is the heat is not as pronounced. I 'think' that is the case with the others too but someone else can chime in here.

Well I know how popular the Tridents are and fair enough but I just can't warm to them, if they were slash cut as in the TOR pipe to suit the tail angle, well maybe.
On a MV Augusta being more horizontal they look okay and not as cramped.

I have a TOR pipe, only the three polished tips are immediately noticable as everything else beyond them is blacked out, if the Two Brothers pipe was available back in '06 I would have bought one.

I like the simplicity and function of a single pipe, I would however have shortened and re-bent the link pipe to bring it flush with the tail body work.

Regards, Lambo

I think there was a post with a picture awhile back that Wolf (Peter) had made the Tridents with slash-cut tips at the request of the member. Looked pretty good. If I had the money, I'd go for the Tridents, but, right now the TOR is not even an option

Given the options you gave me/triumph website community to pick from...I would say TOR.

TOR= stays with the stock theme of the bike and sounds great and fits correctly.

But I still say TRIDENT!!

I wonder how much difference there really is?
Some time back I did the math with my measurements and Wolf's weight saving claims and calculated the Trident would have to weigh ~3.5 lb.

WardenRoss posts:
"The original muffler weighs 18 pounds. The Tridents weigh about 12 pounds."

If you add the weight of the tip to my measurements, the OEM cat pipe weight close to 16 lb but the weight saving with the TOR was 3.5 lb in either case.
WardenRoss saw 6 lb sacing with the Trident but I can't explain the 3 lb difference in our measurements.

Looks like the Trident is somewhere between 0.5 lb and 2.5 lb lighter than the TOR.
Not that it matters much to me, the TOR is paid for and installed.

Oh, and for reference the OEM cat pipe goes:
"Brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrruuuuuuuuuuuuuummmmmmmmmmm m"

No extra charge for the quality DIY sound clips!
