Bright dash lights.

Has anyone had the same problem as me where it ia felt that the reserve fuel waring light is too bright & the main beam light has lost some of its blue so that they are a distraction when driving in the dark. The green of the reserve fuel tank is so bright that I am considerring blanking it off completely with insulation tape. !!!
Aswers on a post card ?
Chris

My blue High Beam light has also lost some intensity. The Low Fuel Level Indicator Light seems to be ok, at least it is during power up. I've never let my tank get low enough to actuate it.

In the old days, lamps that got brighter were usually an indication of a voltage regulator problem. This does not apply to our bikes.

Looking at the service literature, those particular bulbs are not listed because they are not user replaceable items. The schematic shows that they are LEDs. LED intensity can be affected by the viewing angle much more than conventional bulbs. Anything to cause them to change orientation can affect the intensity. If you have the wherewithal, and they bother you that much, you can take a look at them on the circuit board and carefully realign them. If you don't feel that brave, you could put tape on them, but I suggest that you don't cover them up entirely. Use a translucent tape and apply enough layers to adjust the intensity to your preference.

Dash lights

Chris, you need to update your profile to show the age of your bike.

OnD, Chris has the previous model of the ST. No flashy LEDs for us boys.

Chris, I think you may be able to get to the warning light strip from behind the instrument binacle, but would prefer confirmation from others that you can as it's a fairly fiddly job for you...

You have to take the nose fairing off (going from memory, so please add what I miss) -
  1. Remove the black ears on the insides of the windscreen arms (2 black Mushrooms per side)
  2. undo the two lower windscreen screws
  3. Remove the two black radiator surrounds (3 black hex mushrooms per side)
  4. Undo the 2 chrome hex mushrooms on the fairing surface under the bars and 2 down either side along the join line to main fairing
  5. Remove the mirrors by peeling back the mirror rubbers and remove the 2 10mm bolts per side
  6. Ease the nose forward and support while you use your 2nd and 3rd hand to disconnect the position light - small pointless one with the alarm LED (oh they have got onto our bikes ) and the two indicators and slide the nose off. It will need a little jiggery-pokery and some slight stretching to do this.
Now you have access to the back of the instrument binnacle you should be able to undo the two philips/pozi screws on the front of the dash, release the strip and have a look.

I would think about putting some lightly smoked sticky-backed plastic (for all you Blue Peter viewers out there) over the bright ones, and re-assembling.

long old job for what it delivers, but it will certainly increase your knowledge of the bike! LOL

I wondered about the green fuel light, but thought it was a mistake.

For the umpteenth time, I wish everyone would list their bike. It may be misnamed but the section for favorite bike is where it should be listed.

My time wasn't wasted though, because as I pored over the scematic last night, trying to figure out his problem, I learned a few things, and wondered about others.

Warning light intensity

Hi .
I have been thinking of applying some paint over these lenses. The Blue high level headlamp lens is nearly all white, just a little blue. Its the blue/white that distracts me. The green, low fuel, light really is bright & reflects back off the screen causing a reflecting glare which it is hard to see through.
I dont think "dark glasses" would be the answer. But thanks for the suggestion. who ever it was who had the idea.

We had annoying bright green indicators on our comm panels when flying at night. Not good when flying blacked out and on NVG's. Since we couldn't dim them, we used a black grease pencil. Non-permanent and would still let you see when it was on.

Just a suggestion.

Quit'cher bitchin and ride... hehe.

Bright dash lights? C'mon... stop staring at them and look at the road.

Would you rather have a NON noticeable low fuel indicator and never notice that you need fuel?
