Why Did I Buy the Sprint?
Why Did I Buy the Sprint?
I am a long time, long distance BMW rider. I have not owned a chain drive bike since 1980. That said I was in the market for a new ride. I had narrowed the choice of the new bike down to the following:
BMW K1200GT
BMW R1200S
Ducati Multistrata
Ducati ST
Honda ST 1300
Suzuki Bandit
Suzuki V Strom
Yamaha FJR
But I could not make up my mind. I found something that I disliked about each bike. Then, while at Daytona Beach - Bikeweek, a friend of mine insisted that I ride one of the Triumph 1050 Triples. “Why not? I’ve tested everything else.” I said. I rode the Sprint.
I was immediately smitten. “Of all the gin joints in all the towns in all the world, she walks into mine.” A Bogart moment! The weight was perfect and so was the handling, especially for my touring. The ergonaumics are fantastic! The bike “fit” me like it was tailored for me. Wind protection was pretty good, but a little on the sporting side, which I dearly love! The bars did not strain my wrists. My feet could immediately find the foot pegs without searching! The seat is the most comfortable of any new bike that I’ve ridden. Dang!
The motor was the clincher. Romantic, robust, and rambunctious! Love that sound. Pulls like a twin, and rushes like a four! Double Dang! And hard luggage too!
Once back home, I immediately visited my closest dealer. He made me an excellent offer. The Sprint just happened to be cheaper than all the bikes I mentioned (except the Bandit), but she had hard luggage and a two-year unlimited warranty! Sold!
In conclusion, I’m a very satisfied customer. This is a great package. This Sprint is comparable to all the bikes that I was considering AND has a very reasonable price tag. She is a gem! I am able to tour, ride the mountains, commute and play hooligan on the weekend! The suspension is the perfect mix and is still soft enough for extended super slab rides. She offers easy maintenance, good fuel economy, and the fit and finish is comparable to anything out there!
The Sprint is a remarkable bike. I’m satisfied. Where’s my Arai? I’m goin’ for a ride!

That's what's called an epiphany.
I bought mine because Rod my dealer said to.

I have got to agree with everything Warden said. I know that when I was looking to get back into riding, iot was not a Sprint I had in mind, but after test riding one, there was nothing else that would have worrked,

.... well put wardenross.
I bought my Sprint in 05 without a test ride as they were so short of stock that they had no demo.
I based my decision on a previous ride on a 955 and the look and feel of the new Sprint.
The 2 1/2 hour ride home was a real revelation - as I headed home I knew I had made a very smart decision - and it has only got better since then.

W/Ross I am an old BMW man.....but like everybody else, once I rode the
Sprint, I was sold on that beautiful engine. I also love the way it looks
and handles and for my fat arse, that seat is really comfy.
I have two BMs in the garage, and they are nice bikes....but I always
grab the Triumph keys....it's great.

Love it!
Hi,
love that story WardenRoss, sums up everything good about the bike.
Personally, I have come to love that moment in the morning, off on my daily commute or out into the (police infested) hills, just the look of the machine standing in the garage gets the heart racing! Even tonight I had to go out in the cage, coming into the garage the lines are sooo sleek - it's a bike that looks fast standing still... gotta love it. And it gets much, much better when you're riding!
I stop short at naming it though!
