OOOOOOHHHHHH Yeah!!!!

Wow, I just put on a set of Gaffler Green pads on the front & Blacks on the rear. Man-o-Man this thing really stops. Glad I didn't have that elective dental work done this week.......YYYEEEEEEHHHHAAAAAA!!!! Just have to keep reminding myself to keep my speed down. I've never done a stoppie, but I could now...whew. What a massive improvement. The rears were down to bare metal, the fronts were probably OEM. OMG, I was whizzing around and STOPPING, with the stupidest grin on my face. Love this bike.

Refreshing to read of someone getting their jollies by STOPPING a Sprint. Most of the lads and lasses on this forum only seem to appreciate speed!

Nice alii1959,
I have not had problems with my brakes and I think I ride as hard as most. But I realise some folks had had problems.

Glad you have found pads that work for you.

when replacing pads you exercise your calipers - that alone makes the bike to stop much better even if you would put the original pads back. I had the same feeling when replaced my pads with EBC, it put the grin on my face and I did pull a huge stoppie . However in few hundred miles it was back to "normal". Shortly after I went six pots and never looked back since then!

Well, for now I don't have a need for stronger brakes. I have always been more concerned with stopping than going....even in cages. Until I was convinced that I could stop, I didn't want to go....especially fast. Having brakes that react so well does give one much more confidence in the occasional blast down a straight and into a turn. I depend on my trailing brake, and the rear brakes were absolutely gone.

I was trying to enjoy going on the RS yesterday, but the brakes were definitely coming in handy as the cagers pulled just about every imaginable dumb move in front of me! (70-0 real fast 'cause some moron in the left lane missed his exit & decided to back up? No problem! Gotta love NYC roads!)

So, yeah, I'm finding the stock brakes to be pretty good. So far, they've cashed every check the motor has written. But....

I still picked up a set of 6-pots off eBay. They got here a couple days ago. I just ordered stainless speed bleeders, & I'll do the swap when those arrive. I'll probably strip the calipers down, give 'em a run or 7 through the ultrasonic cleaner, polish the pistons, & dry 'em out before then.

Cheers,
-Kit

Tokico 6-pots work. AFAIK, sport(y) bike brakes from mid-'90s up until radial mounts came in are almost all the same. The brakes I put on the Trident came off a Kawi ZRX, the set I picked up for the RS is from a ZZR-600 (& came with a 5/8" MC!). All the pre-radial-mount 'busas used these brakes, as did various GSXRs. The easiest way to identify them is visually. They look like this:

Cheers, HTH,
