My costs have been reasonable. As of 13000 miles completing all of the recommended factory services and an unexpected brake pad replacement (rear), my costs have been under $850.00. Can't complain.
wow, that is cheap. i just got quoted "a minimum of 1000$" for the 12k service. maybe I should check another dealer?

I think I'd run away from that one. Mine has quoted roughly $400 max. and probably in the 300-350 range for the whole meal deal.

Going over a few different forums, it does appear that dealers service cost vary from below reasonable almost a gift to making BMW service cost look good. I guess if you have a good dealer, pass the word and let the dealer know. If you have a dealer who is gouging, pass the word and let the dealer know.

When I was looking at the ST vs. the R1100SA, the dealer here quoated roughly $200 for 6K and $400 for 12K, roughly the same as the BMW dealer quoated for the S.

I'm glad I went with the S, but I think I would be just as happy on the ST, in a differnt kind of way.

I do my own maintenance, but to a point. If you write down exactly what is listed at 12K, maybe $1000 won't look that bad. Change coolant, change fork oil, change oil and filter, sync throttle bodies, replace fuel filter, valve check to include pulling cams if you have to change them, steering head lube/check/adjust, that's off the top of my head. Maybe the real question is, if they charge under $400, what are they actually doing?

Like I said, I do most of this myself, but that 12K check is a lot of stuff if you just turn it over to a dealer, so that is a good reason to buy a shop manual and get your fingers dirty.

I'm sitting hear all amazed when I see some of the posts that state words to the effect that the dealer did ALL RECOMMENDED services with Triumph recommended parts at 600 mile or 12, 000 mile and the 600 was 50 bucks or 500 for the 12K. Somthin' is rotten in Denmark. My dealer did the 600 (which was the last time a dealer did any scheduled maintenance on my bike I might add) and it was over $100. Oil, "recommended 4T Racing plus Triumph filter" was over $60 by themselves. There was over an hour of labor because it was done by the book. In a previous post I list some of the items on the 12K inspection. You don't take the plastic off, sync the TB's, ADJUST the valves to include removing the cams, change the fork oil, change the oil, change the coolant, lub the headstock, etc in an hour or two. Replace air and fuel filters. Matter of fact you need to leave the bike overnight so that the valves are cold. When you start adding up Triumph filters alone, you're over $150. I know I can't do most of the maintenance items as fast as an experienced garage mechanic and don't have the tools they have either, but I would guess it still takes a single mechanic four or five hours to do the complete list if done right. Methinks some of the bargains I see here aren't the bargains they appear to be.

I called my dealer yesterday for a quote on the 6000 mile service on the '05 ST, and was quoted $185 including parts and labor.

On a pre-05 the 6K is pretty much an oil change and safety inspection. Is that what it is on the new one's too?
