test your battery
OND you reminded me of another bit. You should be able to test your battery or at least know how to keep it fully charged. Great tips and facts here at your search tool desires.
Cmadden we have a RAT pack here in Minn if your so inclined.

I just took my '99 in with the plastic and tank off. I had the valve clearances checked (no adjustment needed), throttle body sync, new spark plugs, engine coolant change, ECU check, oil change and replacement of a leaky seal at the front sprocket. I have an intermittent problem with my bike idling in extreme heat and humidity. They looked into that also, but they did not find a problem. It came out to a little over $500 US.

I changed the air and fuel filter myself. I used a stock Triumph air filter and a BMW fuel filter. They cost me about $55.

Just had my 6K done.............came out to $215. Seems to be just an oil change.

2004 - 20K Schedule Service
Just got my 2004 baby back from its 20,000-km service. No outstanding issues apart from the fact that I still have that squealing from the back brakes. The head techie suggested that if the sound didn’t go away after a couple of rides, I should bring it back as I could have a warped disc.

I took it out for a quick 100-km run and she’s running sweeter than ever.

Work done,

Check ECM
Change oil and filter
Inspect oil cooler
Inspect fuel system
Replace spark plugs
Check valve clearances
Adjust throttle bodies
Inspect secondary air injection system
Replace air element
Replace coolant
Inspect cooling system for leaks
Replace brake fluids
Inspect front and rear brakes system
Inspect front and rear wheel bearings
Inspect front and rear disc rotor wear
Inspect front and rear wheel runout
Inspect tyre condition and wear
Adjust tyre pressures
Adjust and lube chain
Inspect drive chain slider
Inspect steering head bearings
Inspect front and rear suspension
Adjust clutch and throttle cable freeplays
Clean battery terminals
Inspect charge circuit
Inspect thermofan operation
Adjust idle
Inspect horn, light, safety & kill switch operations
Inspect all bolts and fasteners
Inspect/adjust secondary exhaust clamp bolts
  • Road test
  • Fit Silverstar headlight globes
  • Replaced -
Motul Dot 5.1 brake fluid
Motul coolant
Mobil Racing 4T synthetic oil 15/50
Ferodo rear brake pads
Oil filter
NGK spark plugs
Air filter
  • Sundries and Environmental levy
  • Hire bike
Labour $540.00
Oil and fluids $47.45
Parts $187.55
Consumables $40.00

Subtotal $815.00
GST $81.50
Total $896.50

The work was done @ Procycles (St Peters). All in all, I think it was pretty good value and the service, as I’ve always found the team, pretty friendly and helpful. The hire bike was a Suzuki GS500 @ $25 pd. Seriously under-powered but the gearbox was very smooth (not clunky like the Sprint) and the handling was a little eager but not too bad.

I hope this gives you an idea for when yours is due for its 20K service. Note – all figures are in Oz $$.

I read it before Dave and you definitely got a top deal. Sadly, Sydney dealers can charge like a Mallee bull, and do. Bottom line is I'm happy and its the price of motorcycling pleasure.
