Riding without a main fairing panel?

Hi,

I have had a fairing tab repaired by a specialist about 60 miles away, as a good will gesture, but it looks like if I want it back before Christmas that I will have to go fetch... the only problem is that my bike is my only transport.

So my question is..... can I ride the bike with the missing panel (main right side fairing). I know it will act like a big sail and trap the wind, but will it overstrain, and possibly break the tabs of the belly pan that will be exposed to the airstream, and what about the cockpit fairing vibrating.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated

Rexx

I would remove the other side and the belly pan as well. Symmetry and all that.

I guess it all depends of whether it is on the motorway or A roads really.

If you took off only the belly pan would that help any??

If you kept your speed down (and enjoyed the scenery) it might be OK Rexx.

Good luck..

Hi Rexx

I wouldn't ride it myself unless it was short distances and not high speed.

IMHO

Decision Made

Thanks guys.

After mulling it over I have decided that 60 miles of motorway and Welsh valley roads that I don't like the idea. Particularly crossing the Severn Bridge with an assymetric bike. it's not worth the risk. will scrounge a car

Panel Collection

Well I stole the car (you're my alibi right?)

Got the panel (and a RH bellypan)

Fitted the panel and managed to get another 100 miles on her. Just starting to feel the bite of the Daytona engine now. Can't wait to get past the run in (and my own added run in for the last 3,500 rpm) and get her dyno'd

I'm glad to hear you're back on the road, Rexxypup. There are a few times like that when a car really is the best form of transport! How did your Daytona engine affect insurance on the Sprint?

Soon I will be riding mine without a fairing, unless I get the respray, decals and tab (lug) sorted out soon.

I will leave only the cockpit - it should be alright.
