.....oil question....sorry

Just a quick question for you all. In the 1050's manual, it says we can use 10-40 or 15-50 weight. It doesn't give us temp ranges however. I'm using 10-40 right now, with it being early winter/cooler outside and plan to switch back to 15-50 in the summer which can get rather hot in the midwest USA. My question is, does everyone think the 10-40 will protect just as well as the 15-50 as far as wear once the engine is to temp? By the way, Mobil 1 MX4T 10-40 oil (in the USA) is NOW marketed as Mobil 1 Racing 4T-----the same name as our Triumph branded oil-------and assume it is the same. It is available at certain WalMarts and at Autozone for around $8 a quart. Mobil 1 website now says the MX4T oil and the Racing 4T were the same, with MX4T being only available in the US, and now there is no name descrepency.

Sounds to me like the contract with Triumph just ran out and now they can just print a single label. On your questions I think you are right on the money and have it figured out correctly.

I use the Shell Rotella T Synthetic which is a 5w-40 grade year round. Summers can get hot here, but I live on the coast where they stay fairly mild. Same for the winters. I've had no issues with this oil in 30k miles now.

This is a copy of a chart similar to the ones that used to be in most vehicle owner manuals.

Thanks OND. Pretty much what I was expecting (thus switching back to 15-50 once the heat returns). I was also just wanting to get the word out regarding the MX4T changing names to Racing 4T like the rest of the world (per Mobil's website).
