Somebody-QUICK, if I took this part out

would it cause any problems?? I am refering to the little snail box that is hooked to the intake snorkle. In the process of putting in Iridium plugs and air filter, I want to modify the snorkle a tad, and like I asked can I leave the snail box out and just plug the hole????? OnD are you out there?? anybody??? Bueller???

1. Don't go messing with stuff when you don't know what you're doing then.

2. Pics would help describe what you're talking about.

3. Most people are still at work at 3pm on a Friday...

4. Patience is a virtue.

Not sure what you are talking about. It is doubtful that you would gain any performance increase by playing around with the air box. If you are referring to the resonator, in some cases they modify the sound of the air intake. Sometimes it is aesthetic, and other times it is to comply with noise restrictions. Some air box resonators are designed to improve the air flow by tailoring the intake tract resonances. I don't know what the Sprint resonator does, but I'd bet it is there to comply with noise restrictions. I may be wrong.

Remember, you can not tell by the seat of your pants, or the sound of the engine, if anything you do to the engine has actually increased the power output without a series of dyno runs, or accurately timed runs on a closed course.

The only thing that will help in that area for performance is to increase the volume of the air box itself. If you are handy with plastic welding, pattern making and such it has been done before but on pure race bikes. The amount of gain isn't worth the trouble unless every minute amount of gain is needed no matter to cost or trouble.

I'd just leave the venturi alone. It's not degrading any performance value nor will aid or enhance.

Thanks guys, knew you could pull through, it was the resonator box, it is located on the intake snorkle prior to entering the air box itself. As for the mod I did do, it was posted here a while back, when a poster describe the limited area of the air filter was actually used due to the focused nature of the snorkle protuding into the air box. I simple cut it down a bit to hopfully widened the filtering area. That is all this mod was for, the poster did not say if any gains were made in performance, but after a filter change was done with this modification, the filter pattern used a much larger surface area. So neededless to say I left the resonator alone, finished may plug swap and air filter change........which was not done on my recently performed 12k service.
This will be another thread with lots of lovely pics, so stand by.
