footpeg removal

Ok,

So I searched for an answer and couldn't find one. How in the hades does one remove the foot pegs on the 05+ bikes? I pulled out the little circle clip thing and tried to pull the pin holding the footpeg down, and it would'nt budge. So how do these things come out?

After removing the circlip you need to remove the spirol pin to remove the pivot pin. The spirol pin is approximately 1/8" diameter and is used to cross pin the pivot pin.

He might find taking the whole foot peg bracket off to get at the pin is the easiest method, as you gotta replace the pin when you fit the pivot pin back, and removing the bracket enables you to see if the pin is aligned with the groove in the pivot pin.
though with the RHS is`t slightly harder as you have to deal with the brake lever, but i found it easy just to crack the locknut on the push rod and spin the whole bracket off the rod. This should leave the adjustment of the position of the brake lever in the same place when you replace it.
Even doing it this way, it should only take 5-10mins to change the foot peg

when I did the RHS peg a few weeks ago, i tried it with the bracket in situ, and found 1 of 2 things will happen, you`ll either knock the pin so far through, it will fly out on the inside and you`ll loose it, or you`ll knock it out just enough to get the pivot pin out, leaving it stuck in the back, leaving you unable to knock it back in from the inside.
Also you`ll have a problem bending down, and trying see to line up the pin/groove.
but if you remove the bracket, you can grip it in soft jaws of a vice, and have a solid surface to work against when replacing the pin. more work, but easier in the end

Oh and its a awful tiny hole, which makes it even more fiddlier

P.S in the uk we call em either mills or C lock pins

Usually a quick low side takes it right off, or at least breaks it in half.

Thanks for the help guys. I saw the little hole but didn't think they would put a pin in it. What a pain. I will follow up in a few days with what I am doing.

Oh and norton charlie, I did a 35-45mph lowside down a 6ft embankment last year, so I think I'll try and skip that on the sprint. Plus I didn't damage a peg, but the tank and headlight on my Legend sure took a beating.
