Welcome bode61. Good luck with the mods. As you can see already there is plenty of help available on the forum.

Awww shucks!!! you guys are too kind. I must admit that between this forum and the Ridley forum I feel like I have an extended family. It will be a couple of weeks before all the oparts are here but I will make sure that I take pics of the conversion so I can post them. I have been riding on and off for 35 years so my bike skills aren't as much of a concern as my height limitations as I am 5'8" on a good day. And because I cannot point my toes down to rest on my tip toes I have to ensure that I can flat foot. BUT, when there is a will...there is a way!

Are there any other vertically challenged riders here?

for info on disabled bikers, and adaptions have alook at these guys, National association for bikers with a disability http://www.nabd.org.uk/ ok their a UK based charity group. but are well up on adaptions, and would probably answer any questions you might have on their forum http://forum.disabledbiker.co.uk/index.php
Their online open house magazine has features which may be of interest to you.
it contains features on auto clutches, and there numerous suppliers that have parts suitable for specific disabilities, such as swopping brake/clutches/throttle to the oposite side.

Hi and welcome aboard Bode61. As you can see we are all a bit unusual here with a broad base of experience with the various machines.

Since you have found us there must be others out there that would be very interested in the procedures, parts and process you are using to modify your bike. I would like to ask you to keep me and us appraised of your progress and in the interest of others I am thinking a sticky topic at the top would be in order but would like to keep it organized so it won't get lost in the forum.

Feel free to PM me about this.

Don

Hi Bode61, and welcome. I'm vertically challenged too, I'm about 5'7" after a strong yoga class. I'm tip-toed on the Sprint, but I'm able to live with it. The stock seat height is 31.7 inches, which isn't too bad, but the seat's kind of wide which takes some length out of the legs.

From what I've been told the usual dog-bone kits don't work on the Sprints. You can set the pre-load lower to help sag the bike down, but unless that works with your weight you'll lose a little on the suspension. The most common mod is having the seat re-shaped to gain an inch or two. Aftermarket seats usually are a bit lower, too.

If you have a bike friendly upholsterer They can do wonders with the stock seat. I had mine done to my specs. for $70 bucks and a 1 day turn around when I first got the bike and it's been perfect ever since. If you want to spend the ching on a mail order seat fine, but there is no real reason to.
