correct chain and sprockets?

I'm trying to find the correct chain and sprocket kit for my 99 st. All the ones I can find at motorcyclestore's site are for 2000-2004.

Anyone here know if part# A9608006 will work on a 99 model?

*EDIT*

Ok, I THINK I have found the correct one. Is part# A9950006 the correct one for the 99 Sprint ST's?

My next question is, do these come already riveted, or will I need to purchase a rivet tool to install the chain?

The chain will not come pre-rivited. If they sold you an endless chain you would need to remove the swing arm to install it. That works at the factory, but it would be a big PITA for anyone else.

kc5deb, you could get the chain and sprocket with the rivet link and take it to your local bike mechanic. If you don't have the tools I imagine that it would cost more to buy them than have someone fit the chain. Given that you probably won't do this very often the economics just won't stack up.

BTW. What is your chain and sprocket kit costing. I'm due to do mine really soon (2000ST) and the best I can find is US$186 (AFAM sprockets +DID chain) at sprocketcentre.com. Here if it helps. http://www.sprocketcenter.com/c/1240...5st-99-07.html

Also to check your part number try www.bikebandit.com they have a really good OEM catalog thing. You can select the correct model buy VIN range.

Bike Bandit Catalogue

Be careful of the Bike Bandit Catalogue.

I was trying to use it to confirm when the ST sprockey ratios changed from 18T to 19T and the BB Catalogue gives the same ratio for all the Sprints across the range, and I know the early pre 02 (?) models had the 18T front because I had that chain set fitted!

They have definitely simplified some things!

you need a 530 108 link I suggest the DID VM $102 @chaparral

Sprocket Specialist has good prices I think its about $95 for both.

I believe only the '99 Sprint had the 18 tooth front sprocket. The rest have had the 19 tooth one but many people do prefer to change them out to an 18.

BTW I believe stock T chains are DID.

I don't know how many links the different years changed. I have seen 108 (which is what my RS has) and 110 as pretty standard. If you want the 18 tooth setup why not just order a kit for the Daytona instead. Stock gearing was for many years 18/44 I believe. I've run that setup on my RS and I think most would find it perfect for commuting around town or trips through twistier routes. My RS ran and indicated 82 mph at 5000 rpm if that helps.

Thumbs up Chain/sprockets for '01 ST

Hey guys,

I also need to do replacement (21k miles) on chain & sprockets. Maybe someone can help with a couple of questions:
1. Does it matter if I buy X or O ring chain?
2. Should it be a DID chain or some other brand?
3. What size chain? I don't know where to find a size anywhere for it. I assume the sprocket sizes are stock per year/model.

My local dealer wants $260- for their 'kit'. Seems like way too much.

Thanks for your help.

With 21k on the bike your sprockets should be just fine. This idea that you must change them as a set is simply to sell MORE product and get more of your money! Period.
If you have a choice between an 'X' ring or an 'O' ring you should go for the 'X' ring model. They produce less friction (like it really matters between the two) and they have more pockets to store lubricant. DID or RK are the only two I would recommend. If you do a search on the internet you will find that these are the only two brands with exceptional quality, strength and the durability you need. Triumph used Regina for a while and those chains were really crap!
The BEST deal is the RK XSO model. You can get them for around $70.00-75.00 if you shop around. They are as good as the stock DID Triumph now uses, it's an 'X' ring chain and is rated for up to 1000cc street bikes. You need a 530 size for the stock sprockets.
