Tom from Cracow, Poland checkin in

Hello everyone.

Not a ST owner just quite yet, but doing my due dilligence before I spend a few months pay on a used bike :-)

Which is likely to be a 2000 blue Sprint ST at about 64kkm.

Will know by week's end.

For now I would like to ask you good people for hints what to look at on the bike when I go see it again. I've been lurking around here for the past few days trying to figure out what are common/possible problems/failures with Sprints of said vintage, problem is I found mostly nothing. The sceptic in me refuses to believe some things don't break after 7 years... So please, tell me what to look for :-) Mind you, I'm interested mostly in Sprint specific things, I (we, I took two friends along to slow me down just in case) looked over the generics when I first looked at the bike.

Apart from that I'm having my local Triumph dealer take a look at it on Saturday, and if the stars align properly, that's when it will be MINE :-)

ps. NikosR - all I can say is WOW... Your Greek tour idea seems... unreal I want to say, but if I do get the ST and feel up to such a trip I'll most certainly be getting in touch...

Welcome to the forum and your possible purchase..

The 01 onwards were a slightly more powerful motor that ran a little quieter as well.

They are a bullet proof bike with no major issues. Make sure that the regular services especially 20/40/60,000 km have been done (properly). Especially shims

Good luck.

Welcome!

Welcome to the forum, Tom - good choice of bike, mate!

+1 to what Steve said. I had nearly 100,000 km on my 02 sprint when I sold it, and by having it serviced as recommended, had no problems with it at all.

Cheers

Welcome Tom!

From all my extensive searching if the previous owner maintained it you shouldn't have anything to worry about.
I started looking around the net at bikes a couple of months ago on a whim thinking I probably couldn't really afford to get back on one and a Black Bonnie caught my eye. I hadn't checked out Triumph for a couple of years so I went to the site and saw the Sprint.

I read everything that every type of search entry would bring up for over a month and other than the normal quibbles in reviews and test rides I couldn't find anything that anyone had to say that was really bad about the bike.

I found a dealer about a 100 miles from me that had one but sold it the day I looked at it so he called his rep and found one still in the crate.
I read the Motorrad 12 bike showdown about 3 days before the bike arrived at his shop and all my "did I make the right choice" fears disappeared.

Good luck on Saturday!

Hi,
I hope that friends speaking English would forgive me. You'll have an occasion to learn Polish It'd be easier to answer in our native

Pozdrawiam i miłej gościny tutaj. Chyba na codzień trzeba będzie się po wyspiarsku porozumiewać, żeby się gospodarze nie złościli

welcome aboard

Tom,
+1 to what Steventhechef has said and also Niltime with his time honoured Sprint experience.

they are truly a well engineered machine and quite durable if serviced and looked after.

Enjoy the Sprint forum, I am glad you have another Pole to speak to in your own language

An appeal to the Polish RATters: please post pics (in the Members Albums section) when you get the chance. I know there's some good scenery there & it would be great to have pics from a new country.
