Ok "02" ST riders!

After 5 years of operation it’s time to check in with your mileage and reliability, only if you like. 37,000 (low mileage I guess) no problems other than swing arm bearings (pimped by dealer on the required lubrication schedule and it seized) and fuel fittings! Holding up well and still rids as nice as day one but eats rear tires. Still fun though.

I have not a 02, but a 03 ST here...

I also head a bearings seized, mine were at 55000 the Headstock bearings.

Little specs of rust on the chrome of the tubes, foot-rest plates start to have rust forming also. And all the wrenched-on luggage stuff is heavily rusting (need to do something about that before I loose a hard bag with a laptop in it)

Besides that, 75000Km and going strong... (still on original battery!!)

A little over 87,000 miles now.

- 4 trackdays, on sport touring tires, in the first 2 years of ownership. Rode there with the bags on. Prep'ed the bike in the pits. Ride all day. Went back to street legal, rode home. Smile at the memory of astonished looks in the pits.

- Stator went bad while coming back from a vacation. Replaced, along with the battery, under warrenty in mid-to-late '03.

- Throttle position sensor giving unstable readings after almost 2 years. Replaced under warrenty.

- Recall on rear wheel bearings at about 32k miles. No sign of impending failure.

- Front rotors warped around 35k miles. Replaced by EBC Pro-Lites by me.

-Rear shock started going soft around 32k miles. Nursed to around 45-48k. Replaced by an Ohlins.

- Replaced EOM front wheel bearings at around 80k miles. All other bearings still original equipment.

- Chased a backfire problem off and on over the past year. Could have been the leaking air idle injection hose I just replaced. We shall see.

- Recently a new wrinkle. When the fan kicks in, the fuel gauge goes to empty. And it causes an MIL fault. Investigations to follow.

- Replaced non-leaking fuel fittings with Team Triumph kit myself. More as preventative measure than anything. Did that this year. I did have the recall done last year to the Triumph metal fittings, but was disapointed they were not dry break. And they only replaced the male ends.

- Just replaced the rear OEM pads a few weeks ago, around 86k miles on those. Not quite to the indicators, but eh, I had the spares ready when changing a rear tire. Replaced the OEM front brake pads around 42-45k miles with EBC HH pads.

After owning a 99 model I had the Race Tech catridge emulators, stiffer springs and heavier oil on the '02 from new. The 99 went a year without the conversion, and liked the RT feel far better than stock. Suprisingly changing the rear wasn't nearly the revelation the front was.

I listed the problems I had just because that's human nature, but really I have no interest in replacing the bike until I achive 100k miles. I've gotten far more enjoyment out of it than problems.

Almost year round. I won't leave the house in snow or sleet on purpose. I have riden when the temp was 40-45 deg F. Preferably during daylight though. And I really don't think I've ever actually encountered a temp that was too hot to ride in. I'll hydrate and keep on rolling. I do a lot of commuting(25 miles one way) and a good weekend lunch ride can be 300+ miles round trip. A number of good long tours a year helps rack up the miles as well.

Well, I just got mine last year, so cant blame me for my mileage!
Bought it with Very low miles and put on about 5000 this year. Right now I am 9000 miles.

Nice miles for an '02 ! Sorry, I just dont ride it in rain, and out here in chicago windy city, thats doesnt leave alot of time to ride.

I bought mine new in '02. Currently showing 22,000 miles. Woulda been a whole lot more, but i dated a girl for a year or two that didnt like me riding. (im a spaz...I know) She was afraid I'd get hit er sumthin.

Honestly......only repairs made since new are:::

~Replaced faulty fuel-level sending unit (under warranty).
~brake pads
~one set of tires
~battery
~oil & filter changes
thats it so far, it has been THE best bike I have owned!!!!

31,500 miles since bought new in summer 2003.

did the fuel connector recall when it sprung a leak @ 11,000 or so

on third set of tires

replaced front pads, chain and sprockets @25,000 miles

...and that's it, other than doing the 12K service at 18K, and regular oil changes every 6k. Uses well under a quart between changes.

Things coming up:

12K service @36k (around april of next year at this pace)
new rear tire before that

I'd love to get a new rear shock, my original is getting tired. Perhaps an Ohlins or Wilbers...

Undoubtedly, the best bike I've ever owned.
