Tightened up the suspension, dragged the peg

Well, I tightened up my front 1 full turn this morning, just a small change, probably it's better to make bigger changes to get more of a feel for what the difference is--a bunch of small changes with time in between is kind of like boiling a frog in water where you turn up the heat very slowly, you get used to it so slowly that you don't realize what's happening...

Anyhow, I was really pushing it on my ride home, doubled back and did the 3 miles again and dragged the peg on one of the corners. I could have stood the bike up a little more, but only had jeans on, no pucks. The extra turn on the front forks was nice, but if I had to guess I'd say I don't think it helped me go that extra 5 mph around that corner that dragged the peg. It was probably more just mindset and a desire to push harder.

Also, DaveM and Dolson are right, not the "no drag" nay-sayers. The Sprint's limit is the 3/4" hero blob on the peg--you can't push the bike harder than that. If you're wearing puck sliders you can stand the bike up more and drag your knee instead and if you have outrageous skill and puck sliders you can get the bike and you're knee and elbow down and you're still back to the peg limit.

I like the pic. Looking at the front wheel angle I wonder if he binned it shortly after.
Cheers, Simmo

Well done SEAsprintah

I get too scared at that stage and chicken out!! LOL (that's a nervous titter) but maybe I'll be better with my new stickier Dunlops!!

I'm with Simmo though, he looks like the next frame will a lowside throw away.. impressive nevertheless

I do see what you mean now that I study the picture. It took me a minute of staring at it to figure it out though.

I wonder if the pic was caught at a split second where he was making an extra effort to get the bike down low for the camera, or maybe even just happened to be changing his turn a little at that point.

I would suggest that he has just lost it TBH

The angle of the front wheel gives me impression that he has "passed the point of no return" - unless of course that he now highsides !! and then that is bad in so many other ways.

Having done both, low sides are much better

I know...

Maybe it was your oil that gave you the extra 5 MPH:.

+1 on the sentiment that the guy in the picture is on the verge of low/high-siding. The guy doesn't seem to have great technique. Either that, or he was simply trying something unusual to get the picture...

You don't reckon he's not even moving do you. Maybe someone glued him to the road to take the shot.

Its not even a real Beemer anyway. My old beast you could just about park on the cylinders but there was little chance of scraping anything since the death wobbles would kick in way before that.

LMAO! I was thinking the same thing!

I admit I was thinking of checking the F800 out after that write up in CW. If the wife ever gets her own bike I would consider a middle weight bike. Nah! Who the hell am I kidding?

That's why we used to call them Bend in the Middle Wobblies. My experience with the "old" ones was pushed enough the front and the rear had difficulty reaching an agreement on which way to go:-)

Actually, he's not over that far.

My best riding friend had two beemers many years ago and hated both of them. On both he ground the cylinder heads on the road until they leaked oil and needed replacing.

This guy is 63 and is still an amazing rider.

Don I agree about the bend in the middle thing, we called them speed wobbles............ When I was 18 I was doing a down hill sweeper flat out at 160kph when the speed wobbles set in. VERY SCARY STUFF!!! (RD250)

I finally stopped in the gravel off the bitumen on the wrong side of the road well past the bend. I almost needed to hose out my Belstaff leather pants!

I much prefer modern iron with frames and real brakes!
