Changing Pads - Recommendations

Soon going to change brake fluid and replace pads.

Not done this bit of maintenance before, but looks straightforward.

Pads - sintered or organic - duhhh? Anyone explain this in simple language?

GoldFren Sintered - any views?

EBC Sintered or Organic - any views?

I know could have searched, but gotta dash.

Thanks in advance.

Hi there.

I use the EBC pads. I also cleaned and lightly greased the pistons.

I used EBC HH pads in the past on a Honda 600RR. Liked the bite, hated the squeak (even after some disc quiet applied).

Was thinking about Galfer for the Sprint....recommended or not? I do not know anything about Galfer other than I recognize the brand name.

sintered, metallic, semi-metallic etc. Harder. Increased initial bite, less 'progressive', last longer but eat the disks, can be a bit squeeky or vibration prone.

Organic, non-metallic, kevlar etc. Softer, no feeling of initial bite, 'progressive', last less, good for disks, can feel inadequate.

That's a general categorisation of course, there are significant differences between brands.

I wouldn't go for metallic for the rear brake.

I think T stock pads are non-metallic.

I just installed a set of Galfer front pads a couple hundred miles ago. I have an 05 ST, about 19000 miles. I like the feel of the Galfer pads(green compound, from cyclebrakes.com). True, maybe not as much initial bite as HH pads, but the break "feel" is great. Most importantly, the operation is smooth. No noise or grinding sounds that sometimes come from metallic (HH) pads. They take a few hundred miles to fully break in though.
