Hardbag options 99 ST

I have a 99 ST that came with factory bags (no mounts). I got them in pieces and was in the process of putting them together tonight and it doenst seem the hardware is correct. There is some rivited hook that is also detached from the bag.

I dont have time to mess with this so I was wondering what are the other good options for the ST.

I would like to start taking trips with the better half and we need some storage.

Thanks

Riveted hook

Hi,

If it is the rivited hook I think you mean, it is a tongue of metal about 1" wide by 3" long with the end section folded back on itself to form 3 sides of a square about 1/4" on a side.

If you take the black section of the pannier with the rail mountings away from you, there should be a black tongue on the front edge pointing towards the front of the bike and slightly down. The bracket rivets onto there with the curled back hook towards you.

This slides into a slot in the mounting rail and the locking latch on the rail secures it on that hook.

I would be real careful about using the panniers. There is a fair amount of additional steelwork that went into the back of the ST as part of the pannier kit. It is there to strengthen the frame back there to take the load. Somewhere on this site is a good set of instructions with diagrams for the extra steel. It might help you identify if you have the steel onboard, in which case all you are probably missing are the rails and maybe the stalks to move the rear indicators.

You can find the instructions here..... http://www.triumphnet.com/ Look under 99-04ST>FAQ>Inst/mods/Upgrades>2 box Pannier

I guess its not 100% clear, I only have the bags and was shopping for the mounting hardware. I was going to purchase it from triumph to make sure that I have everything and its proper.

The bags that were given to me were in pieces and I was trying to put the bags themselves back together and there is some aftermarket hardware and the messed up rivited hook.

So I have been looking for other options for hardbags, since the stock bags that I have are not correct with their hardware and to get factory replacements are $$$.

I am thinking givi but want to make sure that they will work properly and well with the st

swmotech make mounting kits to run Givi bags on the ST and RS. They're available through www.twistedthrottle.com
Here's a pic of the Givi bags on my RS

I haven't ridden two up with the bags on so I'm afraid I can't help you on that one.
