Tbiller,
That was a classic I'm still laughing just thinking about it. Well put.

4N099,
Welcome from one newbie to another. I have lurked on this board for some months now until i purchased an '07. Alot of great people and info on this site and everyone seems to want to help others. Ride safe.

Thank you and back at you! Please keep me posted on your experiences with your new ST and I will try to do the same and please, don't encourage the Brits, they are still miffed at us whether they admit it or not.

LOL tbiller. I tittered at the wank comment and thought of the "miscommunication" between other side of the pond dwellers.

No wonder there was a war!!

Soda water is good for milk after washing in cold water....

4N099 glad you're enjoying your steed. Nice colour

Nah, I don't think the Brits are miffed at all any more. As one MP said in an interview on the Discover Chanel (I forget his name and I'm paraphrasing): "Underneath it all, we Brits love Americans because deep down inside, we feel we created you. You're our progeny and we take a sneaking pride in each of your accomplishments."

Kind of like the first time your son beats you at basketball one-on-one. Besides, only in the last 25 years have American Microbrewers begun to brew proper English style ales. Although there are plenty of wankers over there drinking Budweiser now.

Buttwiper? Oh good lord, what are they thinking?
Nothing beats a Guinness, have them check out the fall of
the Roman Empire, it was caused by Augie Busch.

from one old fart to another

Greetings oh smelly one!

Seriously, I'm a 50 yr old back into bikes after 20 years away. Bought an '03 VTR1000 and loved the V-twin (had a Guzzi in the 80s), but not the naff (check out a Brit lexicon for that one) suspension. Had my sights on ST4 Dukes and rode one, but unless I went up to the 996 ST4S the Honda had more grunt, if not more class. Anyway, there's an end to this story...I got tempted by the 955 and newer Sprints and fell for a great deal on runout 06 Sprints.

Have done 900 miles in 6 weeks and yesterday did an all day refresher training course. I just love the bike and managed to scrape both feet during the day, so my cornering confidence has been restored fairly well.

These Sprints are the best and I just enjoy the great lifestyle again and agree that this RAT site is tops, for humour (humor), advice and cameraderie.

Safe riding and watch your back - I have the same problem, but no wank in the muscles!!

Dave

Back when I got into HD in the early 80's not everybody and his brother owned one. I had the first EVO 80ci here at the lake for well over a year, started out with a blacked out Sportster XLX that was still running the shovel style motor (that thing was like riding a flat tracker on gravel roads, unbelievable, wish I still had it).
Everybody I knew was either riding a 74 shovel or a panhead and there were still people around who had knuckleheads. You certainly don't see many of those on the street anymore.

I've already found the Sprint to be more than fun, it's one of the most stable and reassuring rides I think I've ever been on. I am very surprised. I am still learning it's niggles and trying to figure out sounds that I am hearing but it's a lot more comfortable than I thought it would be.
I have sat at a desk working on a computer for the last 20 years and kind of figured I'd have some back trouble since I have it occasionally anyway (I am an old fart) but nada, other than a little neck squinch on the shoulders I feel great. The riding position is very easy to get used to.

Currently suffering from a throttle hand going numb after about 30 miles so if anyone has any advice on that I am all ears.
I started squeezing a stress ball and using a hand grip that I had lying around to try to build up some flaccid unused muscles.

You aren't just a'woofin' about this site either.
I've been doing a lot of reading, it is primo.

Thanks for having me!
Welcome! I too was suffering from the numb hand. If I hadn't been so hell bent on buying this particular bike, I would probably be a Tiger owner right now. I know I made the right decision with the Sprint. I absolutely LOVE this bike. Before the Sprint, I rode a Honda Shadow and it was killing my back. (years of flying around in the back of an Air Force helo wrecks your back, knees and neck) So, I figured if this Sprint thing is for touring, it must be comfy, right? The test ride was like riding on a cloud compared to my Shadow. Even still, on my ride home, my right hand went numb. Very annoying. I figured out that supporting myself with my knees did wonders for the numbness. Then, I found this site (a Godsend, thanks guys!) I had to train myself into a whole new riding position but it's worth it. Mine is an '07 model so I already have the risers. I really believe that helps. Give it time, the numbness will fade as you adapt. my .02 cents.
