Sprint 05 Expansion Tank Warning

G'day All , and thank you all for all the info on these pages .Its all been a great help to this newbee triumph rider.
New to posting stuff, but I have come across something that I just have to post. While turning my ST into a sreetfighter (no money for new fairing) I removed my expansion tank from the bike and disconnected the bottom hose.Tank was filled to max level , but no fluid leaked out when hose was removed. The tank is sealed, no hole in the connectors top or bottom. (see pics)
The bike has been running for 8300 km with no expansion tank. Other 05 ST riders might want to have a quick look before there left high and dry this summer (hope its only a one off). Thanks again for all your shared knowledge its really helped .

Wow!

Very good find! What is your serial # (last six digits)?
I'm checking mine out tonight!

Guess I better check my 06 (made in 05). I recall a few posts where some bikes were puking antifreeze without a cause/explanation----wonder if this happened to their bikes also?!?!?

Good find.
I has a bit of A/F dribble at the lower overflow tank hose when my '06 was new.
I better check.

Update:
Mine's ok. Fliud rises when warm and drops when cold.

Just checked mine and it was ok. sn 243758
It is an overflow for the expansion tank meant to dump any overflow under the bike instead of on it. If it is plugged, the rubber cap will unseat and antifreeze will spill on the left side during an overflow situation.

Better check the lower hose fitting on the tank as well. Both fittings are closed in his pic. He was running with a plugged expansion port and no expansion tank.
On the upside, the tank is clean...

Maybe stating the obvious, but just check the level cold, then warm up the engine. It is an EXPANSION tank, and the level should rise when hot.
