Used St Purchase

Hey crew, I am new to the whole Triumph sport touring scene, although the company I work for has advertised on the forum before.

Anyway, I was at my local Honda dealer looking for parts for one of my older Honda twins and saw a 05 ST that looked pretty clean and the price was right at 6,300 bucks. Does that seem about right, do these bikes loose their value pretty quick, as is the case with some European cars.

I noticed the Ducati's do not do that at all, and there is a 05 S3 with double the miles right now on ebay for 7,500 dollars. Which seems kinda steep.

All the sales squad were busy making deals while I was there plus I was in sandals so I didn't ask to ride it, I wanted to see if there is anything I should look for before going in there and wheeling and dealing with them. I've read the brakes are usually an issue on these, so I definitely am going to bring that up in the negotiations (either way).

Thanks in advance.

I am really eager to pick up a motorcycle I can ride from so Cal to Laguna Seca every year (everything else is too old or uncomfortable).

Mustang,

That seems like a good price for an '05, tho you did not mention mileage, ABS or bags. ABS and bags are about $1000 retail but value to you may be much lower. My brother just bought an '06 ABS with low mileage for about $8,500 [edit: correct amount he paid was $7,500, Bern] and he always looks for a good deal.

Spongy brakes seem to be a problem on some bikes - there are maintenance work-arounds for them (which I've been doing for several years) and permanent solutions (but they're not free).

Great bike, price is fair. The vin can be checked on the Triumph site or by a dealer for any recall work needed. Take a ride and make sure the ergos are good. You can add GenMar risers or 07 Sprint bars to give a little more relaxed position for you if needed. The brakes have numerous posts on this site. Triumph has a larger master cylinder and some have swapped 675 Daytona brake pistons that are coated to provide better feel, others have taken parts off ebay and done entire swaps for very little money. Do some reading on several pages of posts and/or some searches here too. Overall the quirks are very liveable and the motor is so much fun. Excellent value! Just make sure she fits well.

Cheers
Bob

Yeah, take a test ride, just like bobw3592 suggests. If that doesn't endear the bike to you then it's not for you, but if it gives you a mighty big ,then you'll be just like us.

very good deal. I got my 05 non ABS with 2400 miles (though in May) with a minor scratch for $7200
