Who has instaled a K&N filter in their '05-up Sprint?

I ask because I bought one, and the fit is quite sub-par. It doesn't seem to seal well. I had to dremel some of the sides down, on the screw hole didn't line up.

The stock one fits like a glove, this feels as though it moves around a bit.

Does your K&N filter fit snugly? I've never used a K&N in a bike, but on my car the K&N filter was a nice solid fit.
I'm wondering if I got a counterfit one??

They said it was for the S3 and Sprint. Does the S3 and Sprint have different air boxes? I cross referenced the model through K&N's web site. I would think they would make a better product.

K&N

I have have one in since last year, it fitted ok and seem to improve the running of the bike. I also have a K&N in my T595 Daytona which also fitted fine and the bike ran fantastic. Also I run 98 octane in both bikes.

Best of luck and cya

I recall that somebody else had a similar post awhile back. If I remember, the poster said basically the same as you. Also if I recall, he later found that there was a gasket that he failed to remove or failed to install from the stock airbox grooves or something like that??

I had one that did not fit correctly and did not use it. I had the gasket it just was not a snug fit like the original.

It sounds like you haven't transferred the o-ring type gasket from the Triumph filter to the K&N. That will improve the fit and seal but it still won't drop in like the original.

Mine fit like a glove and really pepped up the bike with the TOR and Power Commander.

I transfered the seal from the stock one before install.

Thanks for the replies. I'm going to ride around for a bit, then remove it to see if any grime got through. If so, back to the original.

MCN tested air filters several months ago and found that while the K&N filter flowed the most air, it also allowed the most dirt, grit etc to pass through it. If I remember correctly they cautioned against using a filter that let that much dirt through it.

Exactly -- why let all that crap into your engine for the minimal hp gain it might give you.

Motorcycle engines are high perf, high rpm with close tolerances and high compression - why risk longevity and reliability with a K&N piece of crap filter??

Take a K&N and hold it up in front of a bright light -- you can actually see through it -- not good.

Read about a comparative test of air filters. If you are a K&N fan, don't read it.
