AAAARRRRRRGGGGG...Parts?

It would seem that one of the "little darlings" that I teach tore off my right front turn signal today at school. How frustrating. I have never understood vandals. What kind of glee do you get by breaking things.....???? I just don't get it. Probably made the "little baby thug" mad during class or something. Does anyone know where I can get one cheap....errr... inexpensively? I have a quote from a couple of dealers....$50. I have a 2001 Sprint St. Fortunately the signal still works without the broken part.

I have had this sort of thing happen before. "At-risk" students are never the best behaved and always a challenge. Seldom do they do this sort of thing...but, we've had a number of instances this semester. Seems to go in cycles. Just hoping the camera picked it up. Sorry for venting.

Keep the rubber side down and enjoy the ride.

Are you saying he ripped the lens cover off and the bulb still works? If so the thing about the fronts is that the lens cover is not removable from the housing. So you have to buy a new housing. Bikebandit.com only sells the whole unit including the bulb and harness--it's $50.

I have an 06. I managed to carefully throw it on top of a mates Daytona recently. A very skillful operation that was - talk about the day turning to custard, and it was abt 6.30am at the time. Anyhow little damage was done except that the right front mirror inc indicator snapped off and the brake pedal was bent and made useless. Good when you are just starting an 800 km ride home. The next day I rang the friendly dealer at Horsham Vic (2 1/2 hours travelling away and themselves about 3 hrs travelling from Melbourne - Triumph HQ) and asked them to put on their normal order a mirror and brake pedal. This was on a Thursday late in the day. I got the parts in the mail on the next Tuesday morning from the dealer. I reckon that that would be one of the quickest parts deleveries about. Cost was abt $400 Aud which seems pricey but in reality is probably as cheap as parts on current model imported cars.
Cheers, Simmo

Alii, as a schoolteacher and the son of schoolteachers, I sympathize.

If it makes you feel any better, we once turned a teacher's VW Beetle on it's roof in the school parking lot. This was back over 30 years ago. It was surprisingly easy, and it really did look like a beetle on it's back!

indicator cover

Hi,

I managed to smash the rear section of the indicator unit when I low sided in June. The only whole part I had left was the indicator lens, which popped off in the crash, and I think I still have. You can simply glue this to the front of your unit to replace it. Unfortunately they don't come separate. I had to pay £30+ for the whole unit.

PM me. If we can sort something for P&P and a pint it's yours! Always assuming I can find it!

Grrrr

Mine's a left lens, but I don't have my bike here to see if they are handed.

Don't be too quick to blame the darlings. My right one came off of its own accord. I noticed it hanging by the last theads of glue a couple of evenings before going away. Left it overnight with superglue and bob's your uncle!

Unfortunately, all of our students are "at-risk", what used to be called juvenile delinquents....as a group they have a track record. In addition, we have had a rash of silly vandalism of staff vehicles over the first couple of weeks of school. We have cameras set up, but they are experts at avoiding the camera. You can point one right at them and seldom catch what is going on. It seems that the video can place 4 people near the bike over the course of the day. But, the angle is such that it is really difficult to tell.... Maybe mine just fell off like yours, I hope so.

Put all four in a room. Tell them that the last one standing gets off scot free. The remaining three share cost or repairs.
Then wait and see how long before someone comes up with the truth.

If only it were that easy....

To compound matters, not all of the people near the bike were students. Seems some of the teachers hire a local carwash to wash their cars. These guys pick up the cars wash them then return them. So, we have little authority over them. Further compounding matters, most of the people who work there are former students.....most involved in drugs. The criminal element around here is pretty tight knit and don't 'fess up to easily. And, for such a "low cost" item it is difficult to put enough pressure on them to have things taken care of....we've tried before. Further, while I vent on here I refuse to allow them the luxury of knowing my true anger over the situation. If they realize that I can be angered, thus giving them untold lectures on honesty.....I have given them a target to hit. Hit the target....crazy teacher rants and raves all day....little work. While a bitter pill to swallow, unless we had clear evidence, I find that having a great deal of patience with these students gives me greater opportunity for success with them. Most of them have rotten families, drug problems, crime problems, school problems, etc...and sometimes they test you to see if you really care. They have learned that most adults couldn't care less about them. All that said, the whole episode still ticks me off.....wish it was the first time this kind of thing had happened to me, but it isn't. I do appreciate all of the great responses to my ranting and I thank you guys for letting me vent....sometimes we all need it.

Keep the rubber side down, enjoy the ride.
