Zero Gravity Double Bubble

Anybody riding with a double bubble. I have the touring screen and the windblast hits me in the helmet. I'm looking to lower it to my chest and I think this will do the trick.

Yes, 0 gravity dub bub. I'm 6'1" and the wind hits me in the shoulder area. It's not uncomfortable or turbulent, but if I turn my head the wind really catches my helmet. Also most helmet noise is caused by wind buffeting around the chin and neck area, that's why the NOJ quiet rider and windjammer seal the neck area. If your wind is hitting above the neck it's probably a lot quieter. If I shrug down and nestle my chin into my chest and raise my shoulders closing in the bottom of the helmet it cuts down on noise, but you can't ride that way--does your touring screen raise the wind above the neck?

I also ride with a ZG double bubble and I around 6'1". I was using the standard screen before and was a little annoyed with the way the wind buffeted me around. The DB seems to have stabilised the airflow but as SEASprintah said it is a little noisy. Unless your have a huge Goldwing style screen I don't think you will ever get away from this. I pretty much always use ear plugs and am happy with that. If you want to tuck down GP style and let rip the wind resistance is hugely reduced.

If you want to go this way check out Ebay there is a factory outlet site that sells ZG screens at pretty decent discounts.

Screen Junkie

I think our Greek man Nikosr is a bit of a screen man, he may add to this conversation with some useful info.

On my old bike 2001, I had a ZG double bubble. I am 6'4". I tried it mainly to try and reduce 'upper body wobble' which the standard broad screen seemed to promote. The DB was great for higher speed work and enabled getting the head down. For normal road riding when the weather was calm it gave a better ride but if there were crosswinds and traffic buffeting I reckon it was a bit worse nthan standard. It ended up breaking into thousands of pieces when a bird tried to fly throgh it. I just put the standard one back on and traded up to an 06 model. The screen on the 06 is narrower and I havent yet found the need to change, whether it be normal road riding, long trips, or a track day. I need to wear ear plugs and I think I might look at a 'helment curtain' thingy that I have seen which slips on around the base of the helment and provides air control into the helment from below, looks like it might stop a bit of noise as well.

I have the MRA double bubble. Good only for crouched high speed riding. The Sprint IMO, even the short gripped versions, are no good for being in a crouched position for more than a few minutes. I find the T Aero (stock for the 07s) a better compromise. No clue how the ZG measures against the MRA but I wouldn't think it is too different.

You will never find yourselves in still air whatever screen you use on the Sprint. So the rest is compromise depending on your body measurements, riding style and cruising speeds.

I have found a good compromise in the MRA Vario Touring as I report in a recent rider report post here, although you might need to trade off some high speed air noise with absence of turbulence.

Good helmet always makes a big difference. Whenever I need to ride for more than half an hour or so I always use ear plugs. I find I arrive at my destination much less fatigued.

Ones man's ideal screen is another man's instrument of torture as so much depends on body measurements and riding style.

Yeah, but we haven't asked the most important question - which screen looks the best...?

"gran" ,
Are you using the newest flip up touring screen from Triumph?
If so ; what is your height? I was about to purchase one for cooler weather and you could save me some grief. I have an 06' with the lower bars and the low screen works great for me in warm air at my 5'11" height.

Has any tall (6'+) owner tried the 16.5" Cee Bailey screen?

When I bought my 04 it had an MRA DB screen on it. Looked good but the wind noise and turbulence were terrible so I put the stock screen back on. It is a little bit better with buffeting but not a whole lot. Wind noise with both is a PITA. I use the chin protector on my Shoei to help cut down on the noise.

With the stock screen on the bike I had to cut a planned 6 day ride short and headed home after only 2 days. Basically the buffetting got my already bad neck going. When I got home I ordered a Laminar Lip touring model. The turbulence is significantly less but the wind noise increased a little. I'm 5' 11" and the wind hits me just below the helmet. It does look goofy but it helps my neck. It's easy to put on and take off so I only put it on for long rides.

The length of the Lip from bottom of stock screen to top of Lip is about 16 inches if I remember correctly. I would think the 16.5" Cee Bailey would perform about the same in terms of where the wind would hit the body.
