Its interesting to see the different types of bikes that the people who contribute to this forum posses in addition to their respective Sprints. Everything from veterans, modern classics, desert racers, et al. Looks like a devious bunch of bikes for a devious bunch of people !!
I was pondering what would be the Perfect Pair of motor cycles to own. If you had a choice, what other bike would you most like to have sitting in the garage with your Triumph? Just assume for a minute that Great Uncle Norm, your long lost Aussie relative, has left you a million bucks in his will and you could choose a second scooter to join your Triumph. Obviously the machine has to be obtainable and not some mythical 12 cylinder in line 2 stroke with SSSA and sidecar.
Of course 2 bikes are not enough and I have changed my mind several times. My first choice was a virtual unobtainium - a 1966/67 Honda 250 6 cylinder factory racer. I was at the '67 & '68 IOM TT races when I first saw and heard this masterpiece of engineering being raced by Mike Hailwood and Stuart Graham - an aural sound that compares with only 2 other sound that make the hairs on my head stand up on end, that of the WWII Spitfire's Rolls Royce V12 engine on full throttle (unbelievable) and the Ferrari 3 litre V12 race engine as fitted to their '70's Le Mans cars.
The chances of buying the race Honda is none existent so my choice of a second bike to sit with my RS would have to be a Honda RC30. A racer produced by HRC for the road, complete with titanium rods, SSSA, c/r gears etc. It just presses my buttons !! I saw one in a Brisbane bike shop 10 years ago with a sticker price of about the same price of a new Triumph Daytona today ($A18,000) and have kicked myself since for not buying it.
So, what's your Perfect Pair - your Sprint and a ???
Happy musings...
Steve
