You could be right about the balance, and it certainly should be checked. Just keep in mind that motorcycles are not as sensitive to out of balance conditions as automoblies. This is due partially to the reduced mass of a bike wheel/tire assy as compared to an automobile wheel/tire assy, but mainly because the bike wheel is the narrower of the two. I know that bikes are thought to be as sensitive, or more so, to wheel balance as autos, but the opposite is true.

I got the same shimmy at the same speeds with Avons, but it only happend with no hands. Pilot powers does not seem to have the same problem and they also have not cupped like the Avons.

This is why motorcycle tires can be statically balanced but its not recommended for car tires.

Exactly!
The moment arm is too short to add significantly to any dynamic imbalance.

I keep telling ya, bikes and cars have similarities, but there are differences in addition to the obvious.

Me too

I was experiencing the same problem with a cupped Bridgerock 020, but after consultation with DaveM and RussCook have put a Conti Sport Attack on the front and loving it. No hands off wobble and lovely tip into bends. Thanks guys very happy. The thing that worries me is that this thread seems to be going round in circles. Perfectly balanced circles!!!

Well i just got done running a set of Road Attacks on my 06 Sprint....my conclusion is that I like the tires but i will not be running them again on the Sprint. I mount and balance my own tires, so I know there were no issues with the balancing of the tire. As soon as I put the Road Attacks on I developed a head shake like many others here seemingly have, I thought it was a balance issue, but after checking it after putting a few miles on it was still balanced...as i was irritated and couldn't figure out the cause i just road it out till the rear was shot at 5500mi.

I thought after reading the spacer post that it was possible that they got switched and the tires were slightly misaligned, that was not the case as they were in the correct locations.

so in short i put a set of tires on Friday and put on 300miles this past weekend and not a lick of shaking occurred. So my thoughts are that the Road Attack and the Sprint do not agree with each other at all. And I will be looking to run a different brand of tire soon...time to start my research.

I too had the front end shimmy. I just replaced my Road Attacks with some Dunlop Sportmax's and the shimmy has gone away. I agree with Ravensr, the Sprint and the Conti's just don't get along. Too bad because I thought they were pretty good tires, aside from the shimmy they caused.
