Installed center stand on RS - a bolt questions

Hello there, just installed a used center stand (eBay) on my '02 RS. All is well, but I did find that the bike had a bolt already in place where the RHS of the stand would mount, with a fixed nut inside the lower header bracket. This bolt, although a 10mm size, has much coarser threads than the ones, also 10mm, supplied with the stand. I managed to find a 10mm hex bolt with the proper thread in my extensive collection of fasteners, and also a spacer to allow it to hold the sleeve and clear the outside of the stand, but it seems strange to use a different thread pitch.

I am wondering, what material is the stopper, mounted on the exhaust, made from? I used another 10mm bolt, 2 washers, and 2 nuts to rig up a temporary stop that keeps the stand parallel to the ground, with a length of heater hose split and taped onto the cross bar of the stand to cushion the crash as the stand comes up. I imagine that rubber would burn, and plastic would melt, since it is right on the header.

Anyone else with a RS made or added a center stand stop?

Thanks, Alan L. in BC

Bump stop

Hi, the bump stop is a two parter. The majority of it is rubber, including the cone that goes through the bracket. There is a small hole running through the centreline of the rubber.

The second part is some form of plastic; a long thin rod with a slight bulge on one end, and a disc of the same diameter as the rubber stop at the other.

The rod goes into the hole in the rubber and prevents it coming out of the mount, and the big disc of plastic is what the stand stops against. No sign of meting when I took mine apart.

Thanks - Good information. I am thinking of making up a stop with a coil spring and some rubber, on a 10 or 12 mm bolt.
