Heading down to Port Macquarie
Howdy all,
I am chomping at the bit to get down south (I'm in Queensland) for this RAT raid and have been reading the maps off the page of my atlas.
I think I have my route sorted out for the way down which is going to let me loose on the Sunny Coast Hinterlands, that beautiful Samford Valley run and a nice little play behind the Gold Coast around the Lamington National Park.
That gets me out of God's country and into Mexico, now my question for the seasoned campaigners is , What roads do you recommend I don't miss while down that way?
I have 1 week off, brand new Michelin Pilot Powers (that I don't care if I have to replace when I get home) and 12 points on my license.
I can only sit here and look at the maps and choose the squiggliest lines. Anyone willing to share their favourite roads around the north coast of NSW I'd appreciate it a great deal.
Have a good one.

Oxley Highway
Redsprint,
a must is the Oxley Highway from Walcha inland out to the Port on the Coast. Stop at Gingers creek cafe' for a bite and coffee and then head down down down on some very steep very tight fantastic winding roads.
I have a pic of Gingers creek cafe' in my old album now called the "photo gallery"

Ditto to what DaveM just said
Daves right about the Oxley Redsprint...I did it two weeks ago, but
I went up from Port to Walcha....I prefer to climb a mountain rather then go
down, but either way you will love it...do it both ways, you wont be sorry.
have a good time at the Rat weekend, I was going but I hit a Roo on Sunday
and my bike needs repairs, and with insurance company's involved who
knows how long that will take.

Redsprint when heading back from Qld, I have gone Nimbin, Lismore, Casino across to Tenterfield down the New England Hwy, turn off towards Walcha down the Oxley to Port Macquarie.
That should help bed those tyres in!!

gsbeamer,
you hit a Roo???
How bad was it, I've had plenty of close calls but never clobbered one.
Yikes. Are you ok?
last decent NSW trip we did was about 11 montsh ago I stayed overnight at the Port and went to Walcha and back twice!
I like going down and up, both!

You boys need to get off the main roads. Try going to Grafton down towards Tyringham then down to Nth Dorrigo via Tyringham rd. Then go thru to Belligen across waterfall way and come out at yawn(Pacific hwy) go to Macksville over to the pub with no beer @ Taylors arms, excellent counter lunches,10km of dirt across Bakers Rd to Kempsey rd. Follow that down to Kempsey. Then a short distance to Port Macquarie. Travel the Oxley over to Walcha. Carry up the Thunderbolts Way to Uralla, another great Pub on the hill, thru to Armidale, across the Waterfall way down thru Dorrigo/Belligen then either home or back to Port. This is a very enjoyable ride. Highly recommend. This is a ride I do with a few mates three times a year from Maitland NSW.
Boys when travelling the Oxley, don't cut corners and watch out for loggers during the week days.

Jase I've done most of those roads and they're great.
Maybe you should host the Feb Mid Week ride and we'll either make it a BIG dayride (1100km) or a Fri/Sat ride and stay up North somewhere on the Fri (Walcha's Ok, Wauchope's good). With the 2day ride everyone gets a really big ride in but also has sun at home with the family for brownie points - works really well for me and my mates
Have a think, about what would be doable from Syd and the Gong and then we also meet up with you Hunter, Central Coast and Mid-Coast riders. (maybe the banana benders could meet us for a BS session on the Fri night as well). That would be a blast
Food for thought guys

Sounds good to me ruscook. We can talk about a possible 2-3day run. We could align it with an annual run we try to do.
