Injector cleaners?

Does anyone use injector additives once in while? I've got '02 Sprint and was wondering if I should add a fuel injector additive?

Hi Ptbo

At around 10,000km my 2007 ST started running rough when idling around in first gear and would some times stall shortly after starting up.
I used some Wynn's inject-a-clean(in the recommended dose)and it fixed both problems instantly.Important not to use more than the ratio prescribed on the bottle or to use these products to often as they tend to eat the soft bits in your engine( just in case you did'nt know my friend).

Cheers ST1

Injector cleaner

I have used it on occasion just to make sure all is ok.

Don uses some stuff but I can't remember what it's called.

I don't do it very often though.

Instead of additives, use fuel of a higher Research Octane Rating (RON) regularly. This means premium fuel.

Premium fuels usually have fully synthetic additives which, according to one company "provide detergency, lubricity and corrosion protection". Find out the highest RON fuel available near you, and run a few tankfuls.

The total cost difference isn't that much. Depends on how much you love your bike!

95 RON minimum as per Manual

Malestrom,
in Australia you should only be using Premium in your Sprint anyway as per the manual.

Be careful when using terms like "premium" as in the US and other countries they have different fuel ratings and names.

I personally normally use BP 98 Octane or Caltex 98 Octane.

Cool

More than using a premium grade fuel one should run a premium brand fuel. Here in the US, on the west coast at least, Chevron is arguably the most 'premium' brand available and has enough detergent additives in the formula that additional additives are not needed. Burning fuel from the local 7-11 or Quickie Mart, regardless of octane rating, is putting your engine at risk of excessive deposits because of a lack of an adequate detergent package. Why do you think they can sell it so cheap? Granted, a tank or 2 (or even 3) won't usually hurt but a steady diet of cheap gasoline is flirting with disaster. It just isn't worth the savings.

+1 with Chevron

I always try to use Chevron in my bikes and my truck. I will occasionally throw some Techron fuel system cleaner in my truck (once a year or so). probably will do the same with my Sprint. Some have had good luck with the Seafoam cleaner, as well as Redline, and I have used BG44K in my cars before. I believe some folks were using pure Acetone as well.

Been using BP 93 and Shell V power 93 Octane almost exclusively-both seem to work great in my Speedy. Son uses those and Chevron too in his Sprint.
I add some stuff called Gumout w/REGANE occasionally to all my fleet. Seems to work great-no problems.

Interesting to see you mention Seafoam. I use it in my carburetted bikes, and quite like it. I was wondering if it is appropriate for an injected motor...

I personally have been using Seafoam, however there are some who warn about using anything for fear of incompatibility with rubber/plastics etc.

When I use a product I try to put it in correct dosage to a couple of gallons of gas and then use immediately just before totally refilling the tank and diluting whatever cleaner is left.

In the U.S. gas that is rated "Top Tier" has all the additives reccommended. In Wisconsin I get that at Quik Trip.
