Polished Wheels
OK, now that I am in luv with my 07 I was thinking of getting the wheels polished, you know, "the shoes makef the man"
Anyone done it?
Any photos I can see?
What is involved etc?
Do I have to take only the rims in or do they take the bike and do the lot?
Anyone know where in Melbourne I can get it down?
Any info would be great
Cheers
Poddy

Polished wheels
Poddy,
I polished the wheels on my 595 Daytona and it is a pretty hard and dirty job. A mate of mine over here in Tassie polished just the outside of his wheels on his 1050 Sprint. I believe they will polish any part of the rim you want.

poddy,
check out oldndumb's pics in the thread 'you and your sickle' (page 17) he has part of his wheels polished. You may want to drop him a line to get more info on whats involved.
Cheers, G

Polished wheels will look great but you will have much more maintenance involved keeping up with them. I will leave mine low maintenance black

Chrome 'em!
Not much more expensive than polishing, and very little maintenance if you get a quality job!

I saw Oldndumb's photos in the album myself and was wondering what all was involved/cost involved in the process. It appears he left the spokes and innermost lip stock and polished the flat parts and outside edge/lip of the wheels. Looks pretty nice.

OK... i'm gonna open a can of worms here
RE:- the use of chrome on structural components.
The application of chrome to metal causes Hydrogen embrittlement, this is NOT good on structural items (like wheels!) and can lead to catastrophic failure of the parts it is applied to.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hydrogen_embrittlement
I realize lots of people do/have done it, but IMO is a very risky practice.
Alloy will polish to a mirror finish, require less maintenance, and last longer and without the risk of part failure.
Cheers, G.
